My 10mm WSS Troops ~ French
« on: January 16, 2024, 05:42:11 AM »
Last year I started painting 10mm WSS French. I did a brigade and then stopped for a long while. I picked up where I left off last October/November. I've painted up two brigades of foot, half a brigade of Gardes-Françaises, one brigade of horse, a brigade of dragoons and a couple of cannon. The vast majority of figures are Pendraken. The Gardes and some of the officers are from Van Dyck. I've now moved on to building an Allied force of approximate equal size.

I've really come to love painting 10mm. You can make decent sized formations at low cost and I find them quick and easy to paint. I also only have a 6'x4' table so it will better suit a 10mm battle over larger scales. All in all, this whole army only took me about 3 months of do (if you discount my 10 month break). As mentioned above I've started on an Allied force for which I have all the figures, but I also jumped in on New Years Eve (Australian time) and put in another order with Pendraken just before they raised their prices. I know that I'm going to paint them and I had "Christmas Money" so I thought: "Why not!"

Anyway, here's what I have so far:

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Pendraken is a great choice. And your army is magnificent.

Great stuff.

I do like the simplicity of the WSS uniforms, as you say nice and quick to paint, and a colourful end result. Do I spot a few LoA figures for the dragoons?

Your flags are very magnificent!

I'm struggling myself with some 10mm at the moment so I am impressed with how well done these are!

Lovely army. I'm planning a "Williamite Wars" set of armies using Pendraken 10mm, but may have got myself distracted by the early 17th century Polish-Turkish-Swedish wars, again using Pendraken. Can I ask what rules you plan to use for your early 18th century gaming? I found a copy of the League of Augsburg's 3rd edition "Beneath the Lily Banner" going cheap. The author obviously knows his stuff and I would hope by the 3rd edition any bugs have been ironed out. However, always interesting to know what others are doing.
