Xenos Rampant - Vehicle Heavy Detachments?
« on: February 01, 2024, 09:35:08 PM »
Has anyone run vehicle heavy detachments or have several on the table across the detachments participating in the conflict?

Generally, I'm curious how much experience folks are having with the rules for "vehicle" units in your games. Are they working out ok?

Not had a chance to play the game but picked up the rulebook and having read through it, doesn't seem vehicle friendly, there are rules but it (to me) seems more geared towards skirmish to small action infantry games.

I have run several WWII "Xenos" games and I think they went fine.

For the Germans I brought one vehicle and I used the technical rules to make stats for halftracks.

I haven't got the rules in front of me, but isn't it one fighting vehicle or transport vehicle for every 18 points in your detachment?

The games I've played, it's worked out at essentially one tank per side in a 30 point game.

I think for one game I managed to use 4 humvees by using the soft-skin profile for them.

Correct, two of the vehicle types are limited to one for every 18pts, but how did your game go with 4 soft-skinned vehicles.

I guess, for motorcycles, one would just add the Mobile option to a unit. It would only extend the movement by 4" though so maybe better for horses or bicycles, but I have models on motorcycles. I might have to use that option for them anyway instead of as a vehicle.

We used soft-skin vehicle plus Transport (5) for 3 points each. They were useful for running troops across the table quickly. Great for running zombies over, not so great when being shot at.

I see Xenos Rampant rules points as a jumping-off place and guide, vice following the points limits devotedly (I guess you might have to for tournament play).

The vehicles in general are not over powered.  The anti-tank trait is a useful thing for infantry.   I ran "bazooka" teams with limited range "Clsoe assaults doctrine" and anti-tank.

The support weapon combined with "spotters" were the real killers in the game.

I threw the rules about vehicle limits overboard immediately -- Otherwise you can't build forces like a tank platoon (4x 6pt tanks) accompanied by an infantry platoon (8x1pt L.Inf in 4x 4pt [slow,transp10] APCs)

Doesn't seem an issue.
