Paint Recommendations for WW2 Japanese Uniforms?
« on: 29 April 2024, 06:07:59 PM »
Good evening. In anticipation of the Two Fat Lardies upcoming Chain of Command Far East Handbook I've dug out my unpainted 15mm Skytrex Command decision Japanese figures. Looking at my reference books the uniform seems to vary from a yellowish khaki through to a light green, and indeed uniforms in the Land Warfare Hall at IWM Duxford reflects these differences. I don't know if this reflects different theatres, different periods of the war or simply different manufacturers or even natural fading? Any advice welcome plus advice on which paints to use. I normally use Vallejo and they are easy to buy at my local hobby shop.

Thanks.

I am so happy to see that those guides are still useful.

Mick, thanks.  Is there an easy explanation as to where "temperate" uniform was worn as opposed to "tropical". My main theatre will be vs the USMC in the island hopping campaigns.

For the islands campaigns the Japanese should be mostly in tropical uniforms.

Thanks for doing these guides Mick.

What is the difference between the green and the tan uniforms?  Could one freely mix them together?
Gods, monsters and men,
Will die together in the end.

It is a long time since I wrote the guide but I do recall that the Japanese on the islands had tremendous logistics difficulties so often made replacement uniforms locally.
So, yes, you could mix colours in the same units.
