starship minis
« on: May 22, 2024, 09:51:12 PM »
Hi,

Could I be directed to the thread regarding starship minis? I'm talking the size of Babylon 5 Wars.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm not sure there is one, I've never spotted anything in the 4 years I've been on here, although I could just of missed it.

I think starship battles is a niche subset of a niche hobby so participants are few and far between.

I've been given the Billion Suns rulebook and am very slowly putting together cheap starships to try to tempt people into playing it.

I'll not spend loads on lovely models if they're unlikely to get use, plus I'm a tightfisted Yorkshireman.

Would love to see your stuff and perhaps this will become the starship thread.

I'm talking the size of Babylon 5 Wars.
Is that the size (scale) of the ships or the size of the fleets?

Small fleets. Its a mash of Traveller and Babylon 5. I'm also using Fading Suns ships as well, Noble Armada.

I don't remember seeing a specific thread either, which seems a shame, now you mention it.

There is the full thrust faq - https://faq.fullthrust.net/, which might have useful stuff.

There is a gzg mailing list, but it has maybe 6 posts per year, some years a lot (well, 6) less. The archives are at https://lists.firedrake.org/gzg/, possibly for masochists only.

There are some star wars related ones at - https://forums.atomicmassgames.com/forum/11-rules-forum/

But, yeah, we could do with a spaceship thread

I have seen a few mentions of starships from time to time. Years ago I posted about DIY ships from trash like plastic cutlery and disposable razors and...

But I have not seen much either of free ranging or long focused threads.

I'm a Full Thrust fanboy myself, so anything ship-like is fodder. B5 Wars seemed a bit fiddly in a Star Fleet Battles way, so I got a little more involved with Fleet Action.

Of course, I haven't done anything except pushing models solo for months so can't really talk.

Anyway, spaceship battles are in the future, aside from rank fantasy, so do you have a question, or something specific kewl to share?

Put it out, and I am sure I will have something stupid to say.

Doug

The FAQ is pretty much Full Thrust rules and variants

The mailing list mostly has announcements from Jon about GZG; I've posted a few in 'Commercial' below.

There was talk starting about gropo Phalons, but I fear I killed it with a really small comment... *Sigh*

Starship Combat News has been kinda neglected of late, Dean seems to have moved on to other things, but still worth a look.

If you are crazy enough to look at the mailing list archive, and want a challenge, see if you can find the post where Mr Tuffley, purveyor of Gentlemen's Collectables, refers to me as a 'dirty old man.'

Decades, and I still get a thrill of pride.

Doug
