Advice needed: substitute for starship troopers LAMI minis
« on: March 18, 2010, 05:51:00 PM »
Well, the title says it all. After a fairly long search on the internet, my conclusion is that it's about impossible to get some starship troopers Light Armoured Mobile Infantry (ie, with the same look as in the movie). So, I'd like to find some miniatures that would look similar. My best guess so far : Elysian Drop Troops by Forge World. But before placing an order, I'd like too know if you have a better suggestion.

If 25mm is not too small, these are a dead ringer....

First Corps 25mm not-SST Colonial Troops are a great match. If you are not using any other human figures with them, they may still look okay beside the bugs.

Beyond that, the aforementioned EM-4/Copplestone troopers are probably your best bet.

For what it's worth, here is a link to discussion on TMP about the same topic: http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=170365

Have you considered the troopers by EM4 And Copplestone:

That's what I'd use. Not a perfect match by any means, but they have the right "vibe" to them and are lovely figures which are a joy to paint.

There are a few companies out the that do some heavely armed S.W.A.T. teams. Paint these up like Starship troopers instead of the police style blue & black.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't know the First Corps ones. I'll probably give them a try, since they really close to SST.

I'll have to get some of those 1st corps ones then.

Cheap, effective and very close!

Do they take them to shows? I meant to see if I could find at them on GB's stand at last years Triples, but the game we were playing was such fun I forgot  >:(

If Lowtardog is referring to the Woodbine Scifi figures, I bought two odd packs at Vapnartak, but those were the only ones present - on the other hand, that side of the rack was actually pretty empty by 2pm, so they might have brought the whole lineup, but sold out comparatively quickly.

All said, I'm not quite sure if they work that well as movie-style Mobile Infantry. IMHO, they are almost spot on for Aliens (see my current LPL entry "Marines vs. Monsters" and the respective post in my AVP thread). For movie-style MI, I'd prefer the 1st Corps stuff, which are somewhere between 25s and 28s, leaning towards the latter.
