Starship Troopers anyone painting them?
« on: February 22, 2009, 09:43:24 AM »
Just started doing my "lead piles" Starship Trooper section, anyone else around here doing them? Love to see others work on these fun to paint minis..

Mine are actually mostly painted. I have a shocking amount of painted stuff for that bleedin' game.
I remember it being a lot of fun when I played it non-demo. My old regular opponent refuses to play now unfortunately. It's understandable given what MGP did to us basically.

They do seem to paint themselves though, I played skinnies and the minis were sometimes atrocious, yet still painted up nicely and are very well suited for other generic sci-fi games.

And no, I'm not selling up!  lol

I did a small bunch of Mobile Infantry back when the game was released (2005 or so?), but never got more than the two squads and a bot since my opponents did not even get enough bugs to math these points. :(

This was my platoon (minus the suit, the dropship has since been sold):

Please check my SST gallery for more images.

Loved the original game, but the requirements for non-MI players and Mongoose´s, say, "erratic" company policies have kept me off ever since. A shame, since it had great, great potential, and that action/reaction mechanism was brilliant.

Scratchbuilt dropship??  :o

Yeah, originally done as a modular piece for Void VASA troops - it could carry either a troop compartment/container or a weapon pylon module akin to the Cheyenne Dropship from "Aliens". When I started SST, I modded it to look similar to the heavier dropships from the movie (already had a Skyhook from the MicroMachines Action Force(?) SST line which had suitable size). No modular compound with that one, though. All cardboard plus two plastic bases and metal miniguns from a Warzone weapons pack. Sold it since we never played the game when the bug players lost interest in a) painting dozens of Warrior Bugs and b) waiting months and months for the big bugs to be issued.

I'm in the process of converting a G.I. Joe Killer Whale hovercraft into an SST Viking Lander. It's a huge project, but I've been over-achieving with my Cougar and Grizzly Exosuits, and wanted something suitable large and oppressive to kill Bugs with. The Skinnies stand and fight, though.... don't know why....
Yes, Mongoose screwed up (a business decision, so they say), but there are still some rabid fans out there. There are some rule mods that are floating around out there that flesh them out more thoroughly. The S.I.C.O.N. forum is now down, where all of us gathered (no answer as to what happened to the facilitator), and I'll try and post some pictures of my minis, though I warn you, they're not great.

One miniature is too many, and a thousand are not enough...

Gentlemen, you're hurting my feelings! The color got your attention, didn't it! What good is an extensive color palette in the postings if you cannot use it!!

I changed it to something more pleasing. Just for you. All better now?! You'd hate to see some of my early 'alien planet' cammo schemes on my sci-fi armor painting attempts..... you really would go blind! Think I might paint a Grizzly squad those colors so you all can appreciate the color blends of royal blue, mauve, tan, and grey. You know, how they compliment each other.....!

I have me 12 arachnid warriors and a tanker bug -- and that's it. I want to paint them up Inshallah, but they won't have any of Rico's lot to fight.

I think the plastics were decent looking sci-fi troops but I never could sum up the courage to assemble them!
