AI Image generation with Ideogram.ai
« on: May 26, 2024, 08:03:58 PM »
Ideogram is an AI web application that allows you to browse and generate images from text. On the free plan you get 25 daily prompt submissions. Every prompt you submit returns 4 variations of the image and there are various filters that you can utilise.

The end result does depend greatly on the prompt you use and any of the filters that you select.

I'm finding it very useful for generating background landscapes for taking pictures of my figures. I also use it to create images for my scenario briefing docs.

Here's a cyberpunk style marketplace.

I needed some landscape backgrounds for fantasy and/or historical games.

Some fantasy/historical landscapes with buildings. This is where AI starts to show its limitations. Some of the building designs are 'interesting'.

Want a frozen ruined city?

Lets add some adventurers to the mix.

Lets add some fortifications. As I said previously, AI struggles with buildings.

Neat. Thanks for sharing.
I've used Gencraft for illustrations for my blog. Sounds like Ideogram is better (more daily prompts and more images per prompt). I will have to give it a try

No problem. Just be aware it's only as good as the prompt you use. Also, it does have limitations when it comes to people, weapons and buildings.

Bows and swords, start and end abruptly. Axes and hammers just look wrong too.

That said, I like these ones I had generated.

Strangely enough, Stormtrooper armour can be created easily, but blasters can't.

I used to spend hours/days/weeks trying to create those sorts of landscape pictures in Vue. It was render/move a rock, add a tree, try a different texture/repeat, and I was never happy with the results :(

I'm not sure if I'm happy or annoyed that AI can do this stuff in the relative blink of an eye now. Ignoring the legal minefields involved, some of those images are very impressive, although the top bow one is truely bizarre  lol

I really must dabble at some point. However, I remember how much time I lost to Vue, and I'm concerned I fall down the same rabbit hole here. One day...

Here is an example of it's limitations with weapons. This, according to the AI, is a broom handled Mauser pistol

Yep, weapons, hands, fingers, eyes and arms all render badly.

This Mando has three arms.

Spot the extra hand.

Does Bob Ross style paintings well though.
