Industrial Pipes
« on: November 24, 2009, 01:22:14 PM »
Hi all,

I'm going to try scratchbuilding some external pipes for a Victorian industrial landscape I'm putting together. If it goes horribly wrong I'll look to buy some ready made, any ideas on where I can get some? I've checked Old Crow (Ainsty), Antenociti's Workshop, Pegasus Hobbies, Fenris and some railway modelling sites but cant find what I need. Pardulon used to sell some but I cant find them on the website. Itar's Workshop also sell them but they're based in the US and I dont want to get stung by shipping costs customs.

Anyone aware of any other sources?

Thanks.

Available from many places. Some of it is too sci-fi but the boilers and the pipes are very useful, I've used them many times.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Have you thought of just using 15mm copper pie & fittings? with extra detailing done in card?

I'd go with plastic pipes for plumbing etc rather than copper. It's a hell of a lot cheaper these days and takes paint far easier, comes in more sizes too.

Thanks for the help chaps. My biggest concern is when it comes to bends in the pipes, hopefully the plumbing supplies will sort that.

Best idea prize has to go to Lowtardog, you naughty man!  :)

Got any more?

The only thing I'll bring up on pipes from plumbing supplies is this:

Victorian industrial pipes were bolted together with flanges like in the above pic. Modern plumbing supplies fit inside each other. This could be done fairly easy with plastic/wooden disks between the pipe ends and ading rivets! to join them :)

And to counter Lowtardog and fulfill Thunderchickens wish here's a link

Much naughtiness on this thread!

Dewbakuk, I was going to get around the flanges with some plastic disks and rivets as you suggest, shouldn't be too hard.

Svennn, thanks for the link. Ordered a pack for the bits box, always handy to have.

They were just the first place to get a pic from, there are plenty of people in the UK that sell it.

They [Moduni] were just the first place to get a pic from, there are plenty of people in the UK that sell it.

Please note that the company owning Moduni has recently gone into administration, so until the situation is more clear, I´d be careful ordering from them. If Moduni should go belly-up, too, you might have problems getting a) your stuff or b) your money back due to the peculiarities of German Insolvency Laws.

On the pipe joinings:

I did an internship at a refinery this summer. One thing I was interested to find out (but makes perfect sense when you think about it) is that for such applications, they generally still use flanges (i.e. screwed end plates) to join pipes for ease of replacement, so it´s very different from the slot-in style Dewbakuk mentioned previously.

As for Hookah pipes:
