Japanesed in M1930 Uniforms - Some References, puhhllllease?
« on: November 25, 2009, 06:43:51 AM »
Hey, guys.

Next major Black Army releases for the Shanghai Range are going to include the addition of a new faction - the Japanese. The Japanese in China in 1930 (and actually up until 1939 and beyond, in some areas) wore M1930 uniforms. These are the uniforms with the characteristic "Cherry Blossom" helmet.

Has anybody got some good shots or sketches they'd be willing to share? I enter "M1930 Uniform" In google and get -all kinds- of interesting stuff. Already have a handful of references in my own collection but the more, the better.

The reprint of the US War Department's  'Handbook on Japanese Military Forces' has a good selection of uniform plates showing M1930 uniforms, you can find a copy in many public libraries and they turn up second hand quite regularly. The basic  service tunic with the high collar didn't change all that markedly from its Great War Era predecessor, so if you are smart about this you could do a range that keeps all those BoB gamers happy with Japanese for Siberia as well s doing China/Manchuria. Basically make sure you do figures wearing the peaked service cap as well as the various tin hats ( the 'cherry blossom' was but one

The Landships website has some sketches reproduced from Airfix magazine that shows the earlier uniform. They should be of some help

If these are in 28mm I would be up for quite a few for various projects, including Tsingtao and China in the 1930's

Thanks, Carlos.

Yes, the entire Shanghai range is in 28mm. If I have my druthers, the Japanese will have two different heads, one of which will be wearing a gasmask. The other head should be relatively normal looking. Depends upon what the sculptor can work out.
