I have noticed the rather dramatic reduction in activity here on LAF.  Can anyone point to any primary reasons?  Have people migrated to some other forum?  Been wondering about this for a while now.

Captain Blood has a (brilliant)small business to run now...
Seriously I have no idea except maybe some people prefer Facebook, X etc but for me that's all a bit here today and gone tomorrow (and no space for long discussions on the true nature of Orcs/Goblins!)

It used to be for Rogue Stars, if I remember correctly, but after that fizzled out it got renamed.

To be honest, I usually find content through "show new replies to your posts" and "show unread posts since last visit". I very rarely go to a specific board and see what's new

I started doing that some months ago; really broadens one's horizon  :D

I suspect Facebook is eating the forum (has been for years).

Likely only among the 70 year old angry old white demographic. Who uses Facebook?

Most the population over the age of 30ish. Which is prime wargaming demo. To give an example, the official Stargrave FB group was 9,000 members and sees a 1/2 dozen new posts/topics started each day.

For me personally, I'm no longer allowed to view LAF on my work laptop, so my activity is curtailed to mornings and evenings. I can view LAF on my phone, but it's a pig to edit messages before posting.

My place went through that phase a few years ago, but fortunately they relaxed whatever rules they were using to restrict stuff.

I don't care, I'm here for the pretty pictures so I'll see the posts either way :)

Who uses Facebook?

I have it but it's entirely for promoting mammoth miniatures or for various super specific groups that I'd rather use forums for but the forums don't exist anymore. That and elaborate tenuous meme groups for obscure tv shows.

What!?  Facebook still exists?!  :o. I thought someone flushed that dinosaur down a big toilet a few years ago. Well, I can wish.  lol.  I was on it for a bit to comply with a film contest rule set - but decided it wasn't worth the electrons it uses to exist so stopped cold turkey (which was really easy).  False friendships and myriad opportunities for grifters.  I prefer real people face to face.  Of course, I'm a baby boomer so maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety.  I make exceptions for hobby forums but otherwise I avoid all of the social media silliness.  Real life is so much more satisfying.

I think that the Sci Fi Skirmish should be rolled back into the main board as it seems to see little traffic.

There are some great, well moderated and welcoming hobby groups on Facebook with loads of new posts daily; you're much more likely to get prompt comments and answers to questions than here which is a bonus.

Also, it's much easier to post on FB from your phone than LAF so I restrict LAF to on my laptop.

Neither of my 20 something son's use laptop except for work so I suspect many people aren't interested in media which is not fully mobile phone integrated.

If it was up to me it would still be all paper based but I'm a dinosaur.

I hate FB, as it promotes being an arse for attention and it's hard to keep track of past posts, due to the poor quality search engine - it looks worst than a 90s forum! Negatives aside and I have more, it's the only place I could easily sell stuff - in the first few months, shifted figures that hadn't sold for almost 10 years!
