These days for any largish areas of yellow, I paint white and then add colour with inks and glazes. So much easier.

The two yellows I have are
IronJawz Yellow - and mid yellow and
Iyaden yellow - a more orangey yellow

Both cover great - in fact I have had good coverage from all the contrast paints I have tried. I few of the darker shades don’t do so much of the contrast effect, but I still like them for easy of painting.

Struggling to find a good photo - but the two flyers at the left foreground are IronJawz yellow - likely just a single coat.

Very interesting Fred.  Iyaden yellow is the one I have as well.  Basically just lightly stains the surface, comes out nothing like yours.  Must be something I’m doing wrong  :o

Patrice/Michi, I can see that working for a cold sulphur type yellow, and it’s close to what I use for blonde hair, but doesn’t it turn a warm egg yolk yellow colour a bit muddy?

No, not at all. The use of the yellow tone itself decides whether it’s a warm or cold one.

Iyaden is a darker more orangey shade than those two - I’ll see if I can find some photos tonight. Other than giving the pots a good shake, and it’s fairly obvious when contras paint separates out,  I can’t say there is anything special I do. Primer / undercoat matters, but more from a colour perspective, pale grey vs white gives different results, and you can pre-shade as well to get different effects. But those ones above at most where pale grey Vallejo brush on primer, with a dry brush of Vallejo white, then IronJawz contrast with a big brush!

Thanks for the replies guys.  Some great ideas for me to try out here.  I need to investigate a pink undercoat.  Looks like I need to give the contrast paint another go as well.  The Iyaden yellow was my trial pot after the rave launch reviews and it left me so underwhelmed I never looked further into the range.

2010sunburst - if that doesn’t work I can recommend trying Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl range: they are very smooth and consistent, and when paired with their Glaze and Wash medium (seriously check this witchcraft out) you can make your own contrasts (out of any decent paint not just PA - worked fine with my Vallejo’s). I painted some battlemechs in white for a friend using G&W and it was soooooo easy it felt like I was cheating. I’ve had no luck with (Games Workshop) contrasts, as I generally don’t like the finish or effect, but I’m totally converted to the Monument Hobbies Glaze & Wash method

For those looking to try the PINK undercoat, I hear good things for a resolution.
Here is a good and possibly thr best video on it. https://youtu.be/mmnPkiiswPk?si=G_HSyoDyR_oQP8lt It's another vid in the playlist above.
Would love anycomments from those that try the pink undercoat process. Post here please.

A little late, I know, but I’ve used the pink undercoat on a couple of miniatures and am suitably impressed.
Both miniatures primed white.  All colours from the Vallejo range and were brush painted.  Photos aren’t great, but show off what I mean.

Horse cloth on the right was done conventionally.  Pale sand  underpaint with ivory white highlights, then three layers of yellow ink overpaint.

Horse cloth on the left was under painted with one coat of old rose then overpainted with two layers of yellow ink.  The old rose allowed the undercoat to act as highlights.

There is a much better depth of colour to the pink underpainting in my opinion.  It’s certainly the method I will use going fowards.
