How much for a herd of goats?
« on: November 28, 2009, 11:22:40 AM »
I am looking for some livestock to flesh out my games, goats, donkeys maybe some pigs, you know the kind of thing you will see in a village or small town.

Any suggestions as to where to get them from?
( I am not keen to pay £10.75 plus postage from the Foundry, although they have exactly what I am looking for. ::) )

Have you had a look at Caliver Books.
Normal P&P is cheaper.
But they have an offer of spend £16.50 and get world wide free postage.
They have some Foundry animals.

Amazon Miniatures and Irregular Miniatures both do reasonable livestock at good prices. Might have to email Amazon about them as they're changing casters or something.
Amazon goats, £6.00 for this lot:

Mega Minis do some too but there seem to be less UK suppliers now so postage becomes a factor again.

Well you have a 20% off code and either a book or £70.00 worth of goats get you free postage.

Or

I know what I would do and I think you agree  :)

these guys have every animal you could think of even odd stuff like koalas and flamingos. I've picked up his poultry and a few goats and stuff to add to my town (not that I've gotten around to painting any of them)

But aren't megaminis notoriously smallish - more true 25mm?

Pegasus have plastic goats in their 1/48 farm animals set, however, it's not worth it just for goats. If you're interested in a broader range of animals as well as goats, the set doesn't work out so bad. It has chickens, pigeons, turkeys, goats, sheep, oxen, donkeys and cattle plus 2 farm dogs.  The box they ship in is much larger than the contents, it would have been nicer if they lumped a few more of the smaller animal sprues in it.
One box doesn't give you much of anything with any of the animals in it.

Here's a view of the goats/sheep against a 28mm Eureka 7YW

I imaged the rest of the set here: http://chronofus.net/php/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=251

They are, but for animals, does it really matter? Big goat, small goat, still just a goat.

Unless you're a certain regular over on a frothier forum than this; he's rumoured to have more interest than is polite to mention in LAF's rarified and civilized halls.  lol

 lol

Seriously though - i'd probably for for the foundry goats (using the discount, but only if you had other stuff you wanted to make the postage worthwhile), or the Amazon ones.

Not to bad. But it is a pity you get a bag of 10 all in the same pose.

NOTE: there are some other distributors from this minis in the UK

Those Pegasus sets are very good value. Two or three of those would give most of the domestic animals you'd need for a variety of periods.  Probably not good value to buy just for a large herd of goats, though  :?

I'll definitely find good use for them, so thanks for posting, cdm  :D
