@Melnibonean - Thanks, they're definitely among my all time favourites.

I finally finished off the fourth yesterday. I added the axe so he's equipped as a veteran fighter in the planned games. I'm enjoying doing the shields, inspired by Gripping Beast's excellent Pict shield transfers, themselves based on the Pict symbol stones.  8)

Cheers,

@Little Odo - Thank you!

I had planned a warrior type to lead the warband, but in the end I couldn't resist the opportunity to paint one of my all time favourite miniatures from the lead pile.

This elf is from Heartbreaker miniatures' Earthdawn range, from the early/mid-'90s. Beautifully sculpted flowing robes and pleasing details, I'm really happy to have finally put a paintbrush to him.

That is a nice sculpt and I'm loving the earthty tones. Keep up the good work.

@Lost Egg - Many thanks!

Next for the Warband is this wounded Wardancer. He's another of my old favourite sculpts, adding some real interest to the range of Jes Goodwin Wardancers.

In 'The Woods' he'll use the basic stat line, representing a wounded warrior rather than an actual conscripted farmer or hunter. He'll also provide a good option for a captive should I play the Rescue mission.

I admit that I'm not proud, but I'm pushing WYSIWYG to the limit with this one, as he'll be armed with a short sword and a sling.  ;)

Cheers,
Raedwald

Fantastic set of figures - really like how these are coming out, much more of a Celtic faerie feel to them.

I admit that I'm not proud, but I'm pushing WYSIWYG to the limit with this one, as he'll be armed with a short sword and a sling.  ;)

I see what you have done there ;)

More great classics! It's really inspiring to see them painted so well.

And I don't think I'd seen that Heartbreaker elf before. I really liked some of their stuff from that era (though some were not so good looking). I once got a giant blister pack of 12 or more "Dark Barbarians" from Heartbreaker that still show up on the tabletop almost every month or so- they were really simple sculpts but very nice (and they ranked up too!).

Keep it coming!

@hubbabubba - Thanks!

@fred - Delighted by that description, "Celtic faerie feel", it's exactly what I'd like to achieve, thank you!

@Frugalmax - There certainly is some hit and miss stuff from the era, but the good stuff really is great, right. Cheers.

Well, I finally finished off the warband, with three bowmen. Many of you will recognise them as some of the wonderful Skarloc's archers.

I was lucky to be given 16 of these fellas by an older boy from my village when I was just starting out in the hobby as a kid.

I've kept the painting a bit simpler as I want to do the whole unit at some point; using slap chop, except for the flesh, hair and shields.

What was interesting for me was that some of the other archers are among the first miniatures I ever painted, so it was possible to compare then and (over thirty years later) now - see below.

Anyway, the warband for Oakbound's The Woods is now ready, so very pleased about that.  :D

Cheers,
Raedwald

Moody looking blighters, no skipping through sunlit glades for those fellows while they are on duty! I like them a lot, it’s a great colour palette you chose.

Incredible painting and such a great choice of palette, it really changes the feel and character of the figures.

Proper half-wild, capricious, deadly looking elves.  8)

@Pattus Magnus -  lol Gleeful prancing is strictly prohibited. Thanks!

@JollyBob - Many thanks. They did turn out grimmer than I'd imagined, but I'm glad for the unconventional results.  :)

I was tempted to do the archers in brown leather or hide, but felt too obliged to have some slight nod to the more typical Wood Elf / Skarloc schemes, so went with the green.

@Lord of Moria - Thank you! My pleasure, thanks for the comment.

I love these guys. Great work. Also great to see them next to some 80/90's goblin green base paint jobs! I still put green base rims on some guys every once in a while, though I have moved on from painting the sand green to match (progress!).

Awesome work! Love how gritty they look, if there were elves in Song of Ice and Fire this is how I imagine they'd be.
