Brigade Games Chosen Men
« on: 16 October 2024, 12:24:45 PM »
I have not been a regular attender at the LAF so if this is posted in the wrong area please feel free to correct me.

I have generally been a painter more than a gamer and used to post on Steve Deans Painter Forum before its demise but some years ago work exploded and I basically gave up painting in order to continue. Last Christmas one of my brothers in law gave me some Brigade Games Chosen Men figures, which I seem to remember were sculpted by Paul Hicks. By coincidence I happened to see a couple of old Sharpe TV shows. I have now retired and decided to pick up a brush again.

The photos show up so many errors that I am a bit disappointed with the results close up, but I realise that it would be unrealistic to expect a high standard after so many years of not painting at all. I have begun to note how many techniques with photoshop I have forgotten also, and my IT skills could only charitably be described as "limited" to start with!

At least I have begun to dust off the painting desk and look through the lead and plastic mountain. I am considerably slower than I was but some painting is more progress than no painting. I would appreciate any constructive criticism offered.

Just to prove my comments about my IT skills, I had totally missed the "more attachments" button...

Those look terrific!  :-*

All the characters are immediately recogniseable, the colours are spot on and they're all in the right place too. Don't be too hard on yourself; your painting is excellent, even after a long hiatus.

I think all of us are humbled by the pictures we take of our painted miniatures, and we focus on flaws that the (casual) observer does not even pick up on until they're pointed out.

So trust us; they look great :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

You can paint my figures any time. And photograph them too.

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I love them - great stuff! The modern digital camera is indeed the enemy of confidence and hope when it comes to painting miniatures - heed its warnings but take its advice with a bucketload of salt  lol

Keep up the good work, looking forwards to seeing more.

Many thanks for all of the positive, morale building remarks. I do not disagree that one tends to focus on the minor errors.

I did not recognise a figure for Simmerson on the Brigade website, but will have another look. Christmas is approaching again so maybe I can request further reinforcements from my US based relatives.

These were some of the other chosen men. For speed in painting the rank and file I omitted the eyes but intend to add these at a later date.
