The Battle of Sanderhausen 1758 (Revisited)
« on: 21 October 2024, 11:12:06 AM »
We recently revisited one of my favourite small-sized SYW scenarios for a local club's annual open day; the Battle of Sanderhausen 1758.  When we last played this scenario, the French won a very narrow victory over the Hessians, going right down to the wire on the time-limit for the scenario.  Could the French do it again?  Or could the Hessians hold them off this time?  It's all on the blog:

Oh, and as I'd got myself a nice new fortress, I decided to 'slightly' change the geography; moving the walls of Cassel 'slightly' closer to the battlefield...

After all, it's the fort that counts...  :D

That is indeed a very fine fortress! And lovely eye-candy all round.

Thanks Chris!  The fortress will be slowly expanded and will be better once it's fully drained...

(Note to self: When washing resin models, first make sure they aren't hollow)  ::)

Excellent battle report. Thank you. I'm resuscitating my home-brew SYW rules and must put Sanderhausen on the table sometime. You're an inspiration.

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Thanks Vincent!  Yes, it's a fun scenario, but you do need to 'tweak' the Hessian stats slightly to make them viable (or at least make them do half as well as they did in reality).  The historical orbat for the Hessian cavalry also doesn't seem to make any sense, as discussed in the text.

One must put one's newest tables on the table, must'nt one?

Nice fort, nice looking game.  And not flat, very good that.

Alas, my fort is in 15 mm and my troops for the SYW are 10 (12?) mm.

That's quite the table, fort included.  Well done!
