New starship combat game from Fat Dragon Games - free rules

So, this is new:

Free rules download, a small line of obviously Trek-inspired stl files to print your own ships (and bases and space rocks and some markers), and the miniatures part of it is half off for the introductory week (so $12.50 instead of $25).  Probably worth a look just for the free rules, although I can't see why you'd need the minis if you've already got some you'd rather use instead.  Even if you want Trek-a-likes there are others out there that wouldn't need a home printer, eg Studio Bergstrom or Ground Zero Games NAC and ESU.

Of course, if you've got a printer or access to one it's pretty darn cheap, and the figs look okay.

I actually like the ships, though I see some FASA Romulan as well. Second one is almost a Gallant Wing?

I still shun a print-your-own, though I may buy just to shove at a friend's kid or grandkid when they foolishly offer their services.

They're nice enough designs and more variety never hurts, but they just don't seem very necessary if you've already got a figure collection you can proxy with.  Heck, you could even use Attack Wing or old MicroMachines if you wanted to get even closer to Trek.

The rules themselves are pretty basic but seem okay.

Admit I'm curious to see what else they come out with going forward.

I see there's an expansion already.  Some STL files for space terrain, new scenarios and cards for secret point accumulation, apparently.  Looks okay, if you've got printer access.  Never sure what reasonable prices are with this kind of thing (so many free STLs out there) but $3, discounted from $5 doesn't seem awful.

The asteroids aren't part of the set here.



Still undecided on teh rules.  They're no Full Thrust, but nothing really is.
