What I painted in November 2024
« on: November 06, 2024, 06:48:47 PM »
It's the sixth day of the month and no one has started this thread, yet?  :D I volunteer!

Six Sci-Fi figures from various sources.

"Lord Ordus" - a resin miniature from Wiley Games. Very Dark Side of the Force looking. He will probably end up with my Imperial faction.

"Slugrr," another figure from Wiley Games. Funny thing is when you look on the website, it doesn't show the lower half. I had no idea he'd be a mini-Jabba the Hut. I like him a lot, though, and think he really fits the Star Wars vibe.

What Star Wars movie doesn't have some large beastie being ridden through the streets? I picked up this Wiley Games figure because you can't beat the price, and even if I don't use him as a character he'll make great atmospheric eye candy on the tabletop!

The rest of the figures are freebies from various conventions I've attended. This alien is from Badger Games. Very nice figure -- love the elongated skull and the how the color scheme came out.

For years, I've been attending Cincycon in (appropriately enough) the Cincinnati (USA) area. Each year, you get a pig-man figure specially produced by Ral Partha / Iron Wind Metals, as the pig is the emblem of the convention. I think he's supposed to be a "Pig Iron Man," be giving him a blaster in his left hand and craft store gem, he works great as a Sci-Fi alien. I really like how his armor came out.

Another freebie from a different year, a 40K-ish pig-man. He came out okay, but is not my favorite fig in the batch. Maybe because I've never been bitten by the 40K or the "Space Marines" vibe. Still, I'm happy with how these six came out.

For discussion on how I painted these up, feel free to check out my Lead Legionaries blog:

Nice assortment of sci-fi figs!

I finished up a few more bases for the orc army - some giant trolls and a goblin shaman. Pretty wells done with orcs and their allies for now.

Just got the new 'Nam 68' rules (PSC), so adding bits to use. Civilian wagon to be searched for VC weapons etc.

After 20+ years I've decided to get back into neater painting (rather than just slap it on 15mm or smaller) so I'm using the free models off magazines to practise with. Most of these figures I have zero interest in so I can concentrate on the painting rather than worry about the unit / backstory etc.

I know have not done this in the correct colours and possibly with the wrong equipment AS it's painting practise only but I'm chuffed with the result given how long its been since I did any figure painting:

Tidy job Andrew.

He's French, he's wearing blue. Good enough. :)

Great minds think alike!!!

I've got some of those figures for Star Wars purposes as well. You've done a great job painting those.

"Slugrr," another figure from Wiley Games. Funny thing is when you look on the website, it doesn't show the lower half. I had no idea he'd be a mini-Jabba the Hut.

I thought the same and I use him as a distant member of the Hutt family who still gets his hands dirty.

What rules will you be playing?

I planned the army build around using the Fantastic Battles rules by Nic Wright, but I may use some of the old standbys like Warmaster and Hordes of the Things too. And Midgard, I’ve been waiting for that set since I first heard about it!

Nice, I’ve been interested in Midgard myself.

Been in a bit of a painting slump recently. Hopefully painting these will get me out of it.

Have detailed the build for this model in my main workbench thread but think this one is worthy of inclusion with the great stuff you guys have posted.

Most of these have been ½ ¾ finished for an age but I got them complete over the last couple of weeks.
