Wargames Atlantic Peasant Levy
« on: 19 November 2024, 07:31:34 PM »
A new plastic kit from WA for the Barons War range:

https://wargamesatlantic.com/collections/all/products/peasant-levy-1100-1350

Up for preorder now, general release just before Christmas.

Sorry, can't seem to post actual pictures while on my phone, but I think they look quite tidy and I'm planning to pick up a sprue or two to bulk out my grubby pilgrims for Lion Rampant Outremer.

They look pretty good, I particularly like the one with the curved spear  lol I'd like to see them alongside Oathmark minis as they look like they might be a bit better scale-wise than the FireForge Folk Rabble.

It looks interesting. It has also some extra sprue with a lot of halberds and spears, many of them with chainmail arms. Looks like the sergeants will get their spears and halberds from that set  ;D

I'd like to see them alongside Oathmark minis as they look like they might be a bit better scale-wise than the FireForge Folk Rabble.
Are the FireForge Folk Rabble bigger or smaller than the Oathmark minis?

As they fall in the WGA "Age of Chivalry" range - of which we already have the Foot Knight set, and match to the Footsore "Barons War" line, I would think that they (and the foot Sergeant and Mounted Sergeant and Knight sets when released), will be of a size.
The Knights mix very nicely with Footsore, as designed by the same sculptor (Paul Hicks?)

Tempted to pick a box or 2 of these guys up

As far as Fireforge goes, it's of course very subjective, but tou eye FF are unmixably huge for use with other ranges
I had high hopes for their samurai and was crestfallen when I saw a size comparison with Perry, etc.

I received my box of Levy yesterday and they really are very nice. Not had a chance to build any yet but looking at the sprue they match the previous Foot Knights set in terms of scale.

I have some Perry WOTR miniatures and they are very close to them in terms of height but the the WA miniatures a little more slender, much like the original metals sculpted by Paul Hicks. I can be quite picky when it comes to scale but I would happily use these as peasants for WOTR games with the Perry's range.

In terms of Fireforge, I only own a few miniatures but not the Rabble set. I do have a few of the Northmen and they are noticeably bigger. They are a few mm taller and a lot more bulky, very much what I would call heroic scale. I know a few people were hoping to mix parts between the two sets but I personally think the scale difference would be quite noticeable. Obviously other people may not be as bothered by the differences.

Busy this weekend but if I get a chance to build a couple of the Levy I'll post a couple of comparison shots with the figures I have to hand.

Had time to quickly build one of the figures before I have to go out and took a quick picture. Apologies for the quality, new phone and the light wasn't great. These are WA Foot Knight, Perry Miniatures WOTR Archer, WA Levy and Fireforge Northman.

I’m starting to really like the stuff WA is bringing out.
These levy are superb!

To be fair to Fireforge, that ‘Northmen’ range is only sold as pure fantasy (in fact I’m pretty sure they are meant to be Starks from GoT, they’re just not allowed to say it!)
Yes they are BIG, but they paint up really nicely.
I’ve also got the villager set, yup, agreed, big.
A millionaire trapped in a peasants body!

The levy archer is very rude, possibly anachronistically so. Was that gesture in use before the 100 Years’ War? I see the range is supposedly for use up to 1350 which presumably justifies the inclusion of the right arm but it seems inappropriate for anything earlier, or outside of France for that matter.

Thanks for the pic RedRowan. Don't suppose you have any Oathmark minis you could snap them alongside?

I've never noticed it before but the proportions on the Northerner are a bit off.
