Old World, Undead, Dead Cart
« on: 04 December 2024, 03:59:53 PM »
Since the long time demise of Warhammer Fantasy we'd been using Dragon Rampant rules for Fantasy games (which we enjoyed) however with Old World coming out it gave me the excuse to revisit the larger armies. One such that I have is Undead. As there are some new units in the lists I decided to root around amongst the bits box to see what I could muster. An old Irregular cart, second hand skeleton horse, some Kings of War Zombies, an Oathmark Cultist with a Skaven arm/bell and some random Wargames Factory ancients as dead bodies in the cart allowed me to concoct a Dead Cart unit.

Looks superb.  Well done.

We've been inspired by The Old World too...but weirdly we're playing a different game and using mostly 3D printed and alternate miniature lines. It's the thought that counts!

That’s excellent! I love how you’ve made the bits and pieces all come together to make a really cool piece. It really evokes the right feeling, too, macabre.

Wonderful work! A good use of bits! Loving the zombie on the ground with the pair of legs walking in front of him  ;D

Great idea for an undead force!

I bought an older, OOP set of GW Zombies, around 20 years ago.  They sat, primed, in my queue until last year.  I finally searched the Internet for what dead, rotting human bodies looked like, as I had no idea how to paint them in realistic colors.  Surprisingly, they are mostly light tans and browns.  ;)  Mental block removed, after 20 years...

Sadly, I finished painting them up, but I found their plastic is now rather brittle, and I doubt they will survive even one game play session.  I thought about pitching them, and never looking back, but I couldn't do it.  I will play with them once, and see what happens.  I will NOT put a lot of repair effort into them, no matter what.   :(  Cheers!

The brittleness may not be as bad as you think. When I painted my first batch of 3-D printed figures, I broke one off at the ankles by simply flicking the bottom of the base to remove the excess flocking. I thought, "Oh, no...this is going to be bad."

That said, I have yet to lose a figure in game play. Maybe my players (and myself) are being more careful? I don't know. But I'd say give them a game and see...

Another kit bashed unit. Blood Knights made of Perry Agincourt  Mounts and arms on Fire Forge Knight bodies/ with shields and Puppetswar Vampire knights heads.

A kitbashed Army Standard Bearer - Perry Agincourt Knight, Oathmark Cultist head and old Skaven banner staff with added skull and paper banner.

A Vampire Lord (Highland mini), with two really old Fantasy Acolytes and a second hand fantasy font.

A unit of the really nice Oathmark Skeletons with a few second hand metals.

A unit of the lovely Highland minis Wraiths

The Vampire Lord, Acolytes, and the fantasy font, remind me, strongly, of Thulsa Doom, from the first Schwarzenegger Conan movie, the big battle scene where Conan, and his friends, infiltrated the cannibalistic feast.  Nice figures, all of them.  Superb painting on all of them, as well.  Thanks for sharing.  Cheers!
