Sharpe Practice Vendee Rebellion?
« on: 21 February 2025, 06:15:07 AM »
A few years ago I bought and painted what I planned to be SP forces of Trent Miniatures Republican and what was then Emperor Toad's ( now Skytrex) Rebel forces for gaming the Vendee Rebellion.  I never got them onto the table but last night finally deployed them with a set of lash-up lists, using rebel stats a mate of mine had hashed up from an Irish Rebellion list .I wasn't terribly happy with Rebel list and was wondering if anyone knew of any others out there?  At the time I bought several books on the Rebellion to try to understand the flavour of the conflict which would better inform my army lists but I seem to have lost all the notes I made!

Thanks.

Have a search for the Cerro Manteca fan supplement for SP - it is for the Pennisular war but has a lot of guerrilla and irregular force options in it

I do this one too.

The Vendeans mostly deployed in 3 groups.

Group 1 on the right wing had the most fire arms.

Group 2 on the left wing had the next most fire arms.

Group three in centre had the least fire arms.

Group 1 on the right was to act aggressively and led the attack.

Group 2 on the left attempted to turn the enemy flank.

Once Groups 1 and 2 made progress Group 3 in the centre attacked.

The signal for this was a shout of Rambarre!

I don't know about Sharpe Practice but I hope the above helps.

Vendee rebels have local knowledge and should be able to move through rough terrain faster than the Blues. Armed with pikes and such, they should have an advantage in close combat - I recall fisticuffs is the SP term.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

To illustrate your point, here are some images of Vendée fighters.  ;)

There is a very long thread (in French) on An Argader forum about this period, discussing miniatures, equipment, clothing etc. although more about the rebellion in Brittany, the Breton Chouans and the battle of Quiberon 1795.

We had a few games on this theme.

Yes Patrice, I often went to the Argader forum to look at and read the posts
The representation of the Penthièvre fort is really superb.  ;)
