Beside the Okinawan student nurse assistants, I'm also making these wartime Japanese civilians. During the war, men were encouraged to wear military-style "national clothes" and women to wear monpe, baggy work pants made from kimono material. The set of three women all have variations on the monpe look, one has a blouse, another has a full monpe top and bottom made from a kimono, and the other combines the two with a blouse under the kimono top. Their footwear also reflects what was worn or available, canvas shoes, traditional geta, with or without tabi (split-toe) socks. It became a requirement to carry a bokuzukin (air raid hood) and first aid kit when going out late in the war, which is reflect here as well. The standalone is a cheerful, singing girl inspired by a 1943 song, "Aire is Cute," about a cheerful village girl. I thought it would make for a nice bit of variety, and with this pose it could also be said she's shouting for help.
I'm hoping to make more "regular" miniatures that can be used in different kinds of games or dioramas. The average Japanese woman was about 4'10" so in 28mm they are technically 1/48.
All are sold unpainted and cast in metal. $15 for the three women, $5 for Aire the village girl. Contact me if interested in buying them or the Okinawan student nurse assistants ($20 for a set of four).
