Alien Earth (Alien TV series)

so with plenty of trailers out now and a summer release, thoughts on Alien Earth?

Alien Romulus surpassed expectations (although I recently saw a video that explained the offspring originally shed it's "human" appearance and became full xeno, which would have helped remove David creating them a lot more for me), certainly I'm sure the 3D printer chaps will have plenty of soldier types to do...

Unfortunately that's a fan-made trailer :( While it looks good, there's no reason to expect the real thing will be anything like it.

I gave up on the Alien franchise at some point, but the ones they're nicking clips from look okay, so I'll maybe track them down.

I hope for the best! (Science) Fiction gets really important now as reality is becoming increasingly disappointing to me...

oops... I'm at work, so couldn't actually watch it to check...  lol

there's been a recent viral bit of the ships cat with camera on it's collar wandering around the ship that crashes with the xenos on board and then the trailer proper which shows the soldier types in Thailand.

EDIT - actual trailers from FX official youtube channel now added to the original post instead of the fan nonsense...

This is due on August 13. I'm not completely sure if it's a film or a series... No new trailers yet :(

According to next week's TV listings magazine, it's an 8 part series with a new episode dropping every Wednesday, starting 13th August (ie next Wednesday)

Fingers crossed, cause I don't feel I'm getting value for money from my Disney+ sub at the moment :(

So first two episodes dropped… it’s decent enough, the timeline is very tight for a 65 year mission to return in 2120 means launching in 2055. The other specimens are interesting but not the focal point. I’d have liked to get to know the Maginot crew a bit more, there was some interesting dynamics there, and I love seeing Tyres in stuff.

Hope it has a set resolution and doesn’t do the usual US tv thing and keep stretching it out.

Saw the first episode, and I loved the aesthetics. The eighties retro tech fit perfectly with the original films, as did the crew of the Maginot.

+++SPOILER+++ Considering the exposure and dynamics of the maginot crew, I'm sure we'll see more of them at a later date. Possibly through flashbacks, or maybe through some additional survivors; we didn't see all of them die after all...

The episode had quite a bit of pacing too; series can usually take their time building up background and suspense, but here it all felt a bit rushed, as if they had to cram everything they wanted to tell into one feature film.

For instance, the way the ship retund to earth; there was absolutely nobody monitoring the thing? No radar/lidar/IR/optical early warning systems? No intercept after not identifying and/or communicating? Just straight from the outer solar system, smack down into a metropolis? They could have built loads of extra suspense that way.

Also, the way the S&R team entered the crash site was rather odd: A huge space craft crashes into a residential skyscraper (or two?), they immediately respond (good, but without any communication with their command structure?) and then exit their APC's going full tactical with raised barrels as if entering a warzone (bad/odd, as this was (at that time) purely a rescue mission involving civilians).

It made more sense when entering the ship though, as they did not know its contents or the reason for the crash. And obviously that turned out to be smart. There were also allusions to salvage rights, so perhaps securing such a prize was regularly accomplished through violence? The S&R team did make me think of the emergency responders in Cyberpunk 2077; there to help, but only the client, and ready to gun down anyone standing between them and their objective (but then mixed in with a Colonial Marine feel as well).

I'll be watching the second episode probably tonight; it was interesting enough to draw me back in at least... :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Yeah, the guns out first responders was weird.

The xeno being a complete whirlwind of death doesn’t seem right. Yes, it’s capable, but this one is going absolutely apeshit. The big chap prowled and hunted, like an animal. It’s collecting biomatter for egg metamorphosis, but it’s measured. It may be deadly, but it has purpose and in Aliens they worked to the benefit of the hive. This one is just killing everything it sees.

First two episodes were a lot of fun - strong retro vibe which nails the aesthetic of the original movie.

Holy crap, the henchman with the Boy Cavalier is Adrian Edmondson! It was niggling how familiar he looked.

I watched the first 2 episodes.  I'm optimistic but not completely sold yet.  It wasn't bad though, so that is promising.  Will definitely be watching to see where it goes.
