I'm also very tempted by a fantasy dark age setting, perhaps with more of a Swords and Sorcery vibe than GoT. For what it's worth the Checkpoint Miniatures 'Crom's Anvil' figures were also designed to be compatible to the Copplestone Barbarica range, giving even more options :)

I've started work on rangers, and undead Savages.. for those with North of the wall in mind...

Oh hell yeah! I?ll start saving my pennies now, so I have a big stack when the new releases hit the Northstar shelves! Very excited about themed undead.

Some nice images here of the 2nd pack, 2 handed weapons!

This will give you a nice "heavy" option to go with the infantry.

Matthias, you have excelled yourself with these - well done  :-*

Dragon Rampant would work well for a big skirmish game. If I pick them up, I'll use them for Midgard, which is a bit more 'rank and flank', but a lot of fun.

I?ll shortly be running a multi-player, scenario-based Hyborian game using Dragon Rampant, with some adapted bits and pieces (like playing card driven activation and some limitations on when spellcasting and summoning  can be used, depending on the turn of those cards). Once I?ve run the game a couple of times, I?ll post the details, scenario and pictures on my 15mm Hyborian thread here :)

Suffice to say Dragon Rampant lends itself quite well to mixing 12 or 6 figure fighting units alongside single figure ?reduced model units? to represent heroes, magicians, witches, etc.
it caters for beasts of various denominations, and a relatively light involvement of magic - all of which lends itself well to the Hyborian setting.

For ease of play, I always use one stats card per unit for any / all of the Rampant stable of rules. Here?s a snap of the unit cards I?ve prepared so far for this game :)

@Captain Blood, do you have a shareable file or template for those excellent cards?

I went for Hordes of the Things. Big HoTT to be precise. Most of my Copplestone figures are going for 72 point forces, excepting the Northlanders who are going for 120 points. Megalomania? Possibly  ;D

Possibly, very possibly.

I find 24 points to be a sweet spot for a nice looking army and smallish big battles.

They?re done in good old Powerpoint. I?ll try to add the file to my 15mm thread once I?ve run the game :)

Righty-oh then. Time to dig out my copy of Dragon Rampant as well methinks!  :)

Wow - just amazing figures. I will definitely be getting more of these.

And, just to be a bit cheeky, might the Ice Tribe use reindeer cavalry, perhaps? Y'know - just to be in keeping with the ice 'n' snow aesthetic?  ;)

Haha glad you like them!

I've partly made some Woolly Rhino Riders as heavy Cav, though reindeer (maybe the ice age version?) Would make for a great leader mount too.

Still figuring out logistics of the "large" creatures. Mammoth coming too once I figure out how the riders should sit ;-)

I'd be keen to hear suggestions for contents of a "character" pack. We certainly need a Shaman, Chieftain, Sabertooth Champion?

I was actually considering the lighter Lappish type reindeer as light cavalry, rather than the big, heavy moose-type animals; bow armed light cavalry as a hit and run type skirmish cavalry unit.

Heavy wooly rhino cavalry could be interesting.
As to Mammoth/Mastodon riders, why not go for something slightly different? What about a tough hide covered howdah with some crew inside? I'm imagining it looking a bit like a straighter-sided round coracle type structure on the back of the big beastie, perhaps with hanging hide flaps down the side for a bit more protection. Could be a better option than the usual 'three fella's sat in a row' that you get on some war elephant models?
As to the other character figures - not sure what I'd plump for - obviously got to be different enough from the northlander/pict shamans without straying too far from the overall 'barbarica' aesthetic - perhaps a bear or sabretooth totem shaman?

Plus, further to my previous post, I've just noticed that Dragon Rampant V2 is due out near the end of this year - maybe more options to look forward to?
Cheers.

Irish Elk with the 11m antlers would be cool

Ah yes, but the Northlander warchiefs already have that option, as well as a bear rider. Needs to be something a little different, I feel.
If we're only looking at the Ice Age animals for the range, then maybe the bigger Reindeer would be good as a mount for a Warchief? The lighter cavalry idea doesn't have much else really, other than the horse/elk options in the Northlander range. The only alternative one that looked slightly promising was the Saiga Antelope - modern species are about the size of a goat, Ice Age species of a somewhat larger build but still no bigger than a small pony at best - but definitely very distinctive and unique!

Take your time. I, for one, have dug out my Splintered Light Bastet and Anubis forces (I had intended to use them for Wargods of Aegyptus, but thought better of it) in an attempt to make 2 Dragon Rampant warbands to fight with - it may take me a while. I'll swing back onto the Ice Tribe once I get the little cats and jackals into some sort of order!
