I think they look great and refreshingly different. Your painting technique is simple, but delivers good results.

I really like them. Good colour. They slightly remind me of the blue dinosaur-riding Orc in the game Heroscape. I have one, and I've never had the bottle to paint up a unit of them. Maybe I will.

Thanks, all.
I didn't even think of those grey-blue orcs from Heroscape! Good shout there. My son and I used to play HS when he was younger. He sold it all off to buy a Switch a few years back. His Switch certainly has gotten plenty of use, so it made sense, but I do miss the HS days. He's not much a tabletop gamer though, so I won't get too misty-eyed over it. We're still able to connect through music, concerts, camping, and the occasional chess match. Sorry to digress...

Dire Boar

A third project done in under a week! Readers in this thread are eating well! ;)  Seriously though, last week I took a few days off work to spend time with the kids on Spring Break and I was also able to get quite a bit of painting done. Don?t expect this many units done every week. ha.

Anyway, here we have a Reduced Model Unit Lesser Warbeast, a Reaper Dire Boar. They had this fella down at the local game shop and I thought he?d be a good, cheap addition to the warband. I think he cost about $5. An ornery Dire Boar seemed like the sort of ill-tempered creature to fit in an orc warband. I?ll probably give it the Hatred Fantastical Rule. If I remember correctly, there was a dire boar of sorts causing mayhem in Arthurian legend? He just needs a terror-inducing name like that ram in LotR, Grond. I think I?m gonna go with Morthog unless something else comes up. I?m open to better suggestions if you?ve got ?em.

This was three quick-to-paint units putting me at about 12 points. Half the warband already! But where are the orcs in this orc warband?!

Great thread - and the blue orcs look good!

The only name that springs to mind for the boar is the Urscumug (the boar-headed creature in the marvellous Mythago Wood series by Robert Holdstock). But Morthog has a nice ring to it!

In Middle-earth there was the great boar of Everholt, which got killed by Folca who also died at this feat:

They Orcs might want to name their baby 'Folca' or 'Everholt'  ;)

There are also Twrch Trwyth (pronounced roughly "Turkh Trewith", I think) and Ysgithyrwyn (no idea!) from Welsh mythology, and Saehrimnir from the Norse tradition.
