Dragon Rampant 2nd Ed Leaked?
« on: 23 March 2025, 03:08:14 PM »
Slated for October 2025

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragon-Rampant-Second-Fantasy-Wargaming/dp/1472868641

To be honest, this was a no brainer. I mean, I always felt that DR could have been rolled into the Lion Rampant 2nd Edition book, but this is more money to be made for sure. I mean, DR is really just a handful of pages of fantasy options and LR 2nd Ed introduces Strength Points to LR. Except how Leaders and Lucky Blow work in LR where DR doesn't have such a rule since DR leaders can be a whole unit themselves. That may have been too confusing to have the two different situations in one ruleset.

Anyway, this is an easy purchase for me.

Now the only new hardback I need from Osprey is a book that finally combines a revised Ronin/En Garde. The basic skirmish rules can be brought inline with chapters on how to flavour them for various settings.

Ooo, yes!
I'll be in the market for that.
Funnily enough only a few days ago I was saying to a gaming friend that I was surprised they haven't done a 2nd edition in the wake of LR 2ed.

I saw this too, mentioned it in passing on Maceface's post - I'm definitely getting a copy once it's released, should be rather good given the LR2 book.

As to En Garde - I might be interested in a 2nd edition, I've always fancied doing a border reivers game with them and that might just do the trick!

Our group is enjoying the Rampant system, so I will definitely get this when it comes out .

I'm sure I remember the author saying, in short, 'no way' when asked about the possibility of DR 2nd ed around the time LR 2nd was released  ???

Edit - from Facebook (and other similar quotes can be found). This was two years ago... but Amazon does have a tendency to sometimes 'speculate' on possible releases, so we should hold in any excitment for now imo  lol

It was not too long ago when Mr. Mersey directly answered my question in the Lion Rampant- group about Dragon Rampant 2ed; there will not be a second edition

Yeah, I remember those comments too. I know Dan?s not keen on selling gamers rulebooks ?just cause?. I respect that.  I guess Osprey holds the rights though and a DR hardback will move units. I just hope Dan isn?t sour about the issue.

Or maybe he changed his mind and has written a 2nd ed  :D There are some changes I'd really like to see so it could be interesting.

The timing is about right for feedback from LR2 to tip the balance - so I could imagine Dan Mersey being convinced to bring DR2 up to a similar standard as LR2. There really is a lot more content in the 2nd edition over the first and it has the room to lay things out clearly with more examples and explanations. I'm quite looking forward to seeing it actually.
