In search of...(please help)
« on: April 03, 2025, 10:28:59 PM »
So, I'm looking to produce a small unit (15-ish) of slaves/captives for my Chaos Dwarf army.  I've been looking for any of the generic/classic fantasy ranges which feature some captives in chains/mannacles/shackles.

Preferably in the older 90's GW style?  I'd be fine with goblins, orcs, dwarfs, elves, humans, etc.  Only need maybe 3 sculpts, as I can duplicate them onto 5-6 bases of three minis a piece.

Any ideas?  All I can find online are predominantly laughably busty sex-slaves, etc.  I'd be fine with resin/metal/plastic, etc.

I was considering using the Oathmark goblin slave set, and kit bashing using some heads from other sets. My thinking is that a human (or elf?) that has been a captive for a long time will look skinny and hunched like the goblin bodies. Could convert them into dwarf captives by shortening the legs and arms a bit.

Thanks.  Those Midlam look like a decent start. Yeah, I don't mind kitbashing (I even have some peasant sprues), but I'm just hoping for an easy solution.

How about the old "Drugged" from Chronopia's Stygian range?  They aren't great sculpts by any means, but they aren't too far off from 90s GW quality.  IIRC there's just the two sculpts (sold in 4-packs) but they would add  a little variety.  Might have to hunt around a bit to find some, they may still be in production somewhere (I think there weer some KS projects recently) but they show up now and then on ebay.

I have a 28mm captive figure, walking bowed down with hands bound behind back. Where abouts are you?

Vae Victis have a few shackled prisoners which you should be able to find on a Etsy. Perhaps throw in a few of GW plastic flagellants as overseers etc. for effect.

For a unit filler in my own (yet to be built ::) ) Chaos Dwarf army, I was considering the Empire Flagelant plastics at one time.

I collected several suitable flagelants, and I also put in the bagged hobbit from the Giant kit and several Empire soldiers that can be easily converted into a meek stance sans weapons. I'm figuring this will provide me with a good 40x60mm base of filler, especially when not posed rank and file, but as a cluster. Add a Hobgoblin with a whip or mancatcher and that'll be that... :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Moriarty, I'm in the US - but no need!  I'll find something suitable and just order it in bulk.  I have some Chaos Dwarfs with mancatchers, etc...so I'll be adding some of them to the bases.  I may look at the new Wargames Atlantic "villagers" box...bash it with some Fireforge peasants, etc.

One possibility for you to consider.

There was a figure set from about twenty years ago that included Dorothy and her pet brick Toto. The range includes a pack of three zombie Munchkins in shackles, each brandishing a meat cleaver. The tab on the figures reads copyright 'SJB 05'. My Google Fu is insufficient to identify the company that currently sells them.

One of these years I will paint mine!

The Land of Zo range by Spyglass Miniatures sculpted by Steve Buddle. Heresy Miniatures used to sell them but they're not on the website any more. No idea why as they have other Buddle sculpts still up for grabs.

I offered mine up in the Bazaar some time ago. Nobody was interested.

Nice suggestion, those are the closest to what I'd want.  Will give them a peruse.
