Might be best to look at the films first, including the animated ones, as sort of a visual primer, so to speak!

Hogfather is so beautifully done and a decent adaption of the novel. Now that'd be a fun wargaming scenario...

Sakuragi Miniatures, the terrain angle is an issue. Would it be feasible to set Traitor’s Toll games in a fantasy world inspired by feudal/ mythical Japan? That way you could use some of the excellent buildings you already have. I don’t know the details of Traitors Toll game and I am certainly no expert in Japanese myth, but it seems like you might be able to get double duty from your collection.

yeah, I'm sure I've seen someone doing a Prince of Persia type set up... the setting isn't key, it's a city with watchmen...

I agree -- make it Traitor's Toll set in Japan. You've got a great start on it already...

Are the buildings a major part of the gane, or more just eye candy? By that I mean, do things happen on and in them, or just around them?

The "official" Sarissa buildings are nice, but pricey. If they're more LOS blocking than functional, then I could probably be talked in to cardboard - I still have loads of the old Citadel ones lying about, even if they are probably a bit small nowadays

The impression I got was they were just blocking terrain and the action takes place in the streets and alleys between them. I was wondering about simple 'fold-up' painted card boxes as houses myself.

if you ever want to have some 'visitors from lancre', you can find suitable minis from bad Squiddo games:
the 'wizened witches' set has a near perfect Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg

while the 'Amazon Falconer & Herbalist' has a perfect Magrat in the herbalist..

You don’t need to put figures in the buildings. If someone goes inside, you put the figure on a balcony or step or just put them facing a door.
Buildings are mostly just LOS blocks, but some plots involve burning buildings from which prisoners, priceless texts or children need to be rescued.
The game would work in any setting; Discworld, Lankhmar, Japan, Persia, you name it.

I wonder would it also work as a sort of modern world, or sci-fi (ish or otherwise) setting as well?

Thank you Snapcase! Reading your posts started me thinking about the Discworld and I just had to dig out my film/series collection and start watching them again - I'd forgotten just how good Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters were (even with the older style animation). Now I think I may have to pick up the Compleat Discworld Atlas and the Compleat Ankh-Morpork (honestly - if you can get both at reasonable prices then they should be on every roleplayer or wargamers shelves - a complete ready-made fantasy world and fleshed-out city!).

Thargor, beautiful painting on those Discworld figures. Makes me want to buy them all.

Mike, you must read the Discworld series, you’ll love them.

zemjw, not much happens in the buildings, but there are rules around entering and exiting buildings. I’m still learning the game, but maybe suspects flee from the Watch and cut through buildings?

mithril,  I have those sets from bad Squiddo but haven’t painted them yet, cheers.

Many thanks all, for your kind comments.

I have just constructed the Sarissa market stalls to make the Ankh-Morpork market bigger.

Lu-Tze, the History Monk or just plain temple sweeper (and the only known practitioner of Déjà fu) enters the teeming streets of Ankh-Morpork.

Death and The Librarian.

The Order of Wen the Eternally Surprised are better known as the History Monks. They are also sometimes referred to as the Men In Saffron and are a highly secretive religious organisation based in the Monastery of Oi-Dong.

Here we see the Abbot of Oi-Dong, Clodpool the Apprentice and Soon Shine Sun.

I think you get loads and loads of extra kudos for getting Monty Python to infiltrate the discworld. Brilliant.
