Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Being called "crazy" motivates me to no end.
This is probably the most ambitious project I have ever taken on.
I do have plans for both a rear gun and a deck canopy. The gun will probably be some kind of promiscuously firing weapon mounted on its own little balcony.
The decorative railing is a Grandt line product I found at the local railroad model store. Its called a Wells Fargo Railing I think.

Tonight I hope to tackle the detail work on the balconies and maybe get started on the deck.

if You want to keep sticking with Elephant anatomy you should make a moveable anal flap for the rear gun  - very beatiful project

will you be able to move the trump?

The trunk sections are strung on a wire like brads so it is, in theory, movable. I was thinking of putting the head on a hinge and some nice, bronze doors covering the gun deck in the chest.

Yes, but imagine the surprise when the enemies approach from behind and suddenly, the elephant raises the tail and from underneath (this is what You don't want to imagine  ) comes a gatling gun!

Then You know where the expression "holy crap" comes from

What is this forum coming to?!? Although I´ll admit I had considered a mine-laying apparatus for my steamofant, but discarded it in favour of the pulled wagon-house. Certainly Jules Verne would NOT have approved such puerile banter.

That is a really great concept. I'm looking forward to seeing it completed. Have you seen the steam elephant from Stonehouse Miniatures. You might want to get one or 2 of these to escort your big one.
