3D Scale Printed Models 0f Germany - question
« on: July 15, 2025, 06:12:12 AM »
Got an order from this company today and all was fine.  However, when I went to their website to see if I could find an item it was no longer findable.  Maybe I am missing something in translation.  Items in question were 15 mm gorillas, I bought three sets of six which will keep me in fine fettle.  But I was hoping to find the same section and no luck at all - no gorillas to be found (came in at least 3 different poses and look great for 15 mm gaming).

Website address is www.3D-Scale.de

Perhaps those of you fluent in German, or at least a lot more so than me, can shine some light here?  Item no longer stocked? Very odd.  Or not.  Just not sure.

Thanks for any help.

Hi there, I'm German and would be happy to help. I couldn't find any "gorillas" or "apes" ("Affe") either. If you can give me the exact item's name from your bill or a similar document (item number?), I could also try to search for that.

Also, different question: How was the printing quality of 3D-Scale miniatures? I wanted to order something from them, but the pictures not always looked like I would be happy with the products.

Hi, I checked the animals section of the site, no entry for apes or monkeys of any kind:

https://www.3d-scale.de/3DScale/de/33-tier-figuren

("Tier"="animal")

It could be that the license for the figures in question lapsed, and they got delisted for that reason. But I couldn't find a proper mention, either.

Thanks for the replies.  Yeah, the license lapse might be the reason, makes sense.

For Ursus, the print quality seemed fine to me.  I'll photo later and post up here - will be unwashed and unpainted.

As I recall, they were available in several sizes (which any competent 3D printing company should be able to offer - just be aware of original design size as smaller sizes from larger originals can get increasingly fragile with some portions of the prints).  The 15 mm ones I have seem quite robust.

And later...photos...

Nice sculpt for my purposes.

The whole lot.

And a size comparison, a Splintered Light Robin Hood figure - larger 15 mm, shows the gorillas to be a bit small, probably better for 10 mm but will work fine for my purposes.  Now if I could only find some good chimpanzees to add to my collection!

Hope the photos give you what you need.  I also ordered from same source some sheets of corrugated roofing I will use to add some character to some pulp buildings I have in process and they will be fine.  Do keep in mind I am not a contest quality modeler, just someone who creates things for fun - it is the overall experience I am after, not one beautifully painted figure/building at a time.  I say this so you know my standard of approval might be less than yours.

I think your best bet for chimpanzees will be the Preiser 20388 - Circus Monkeys (10). They're nominally OO/HO (1/87 I think) figures so might be slightly large (at least for monkeys, they might be closer for hefty chimpanzees) but they're about the closest you'll probably find.

Rick,

Thanks - I actually have those but they seem too small.  So, like with the gorillas I kept hunting and got what you see in photos above.

In that case I'm all out of sensible ideas. My only other idea is somewhat bonkers - cut the heads off your small gorillas, glue the monkey/chimpanzee heads from one of the Stargrave boxes on in it's place, then look around for some bigger gorillas! The Blue Moon 'Jungle Lord' pack from their Darkest Africa range has 3 18mm gorillas in it?
I know, bonkers.  lol
