TSATF and AI
« on: 18 July 2025, 10:10:04 PM »
Hello
Even if  I’m not a big fan of IT and not very skilled , I had a try in merging , into Chat GPT , TSATF stuff (basic rules, some tables ecc) , some notes written by me and, above all, the official history (in French) of compagnies meharistes plus a good book on the conquest of Sahara..I then asked for a basic rule set , TSATF inspired , and some scenarios including maps…the result was really interesting ..well made maps, almost accurate TSATF values (fire, morale ec)for both French colonials and Tuaregs , chance cards and realistic TOEs
I then made the same , again asking for  prompts  based on TSATF, for Vendee 1793  rebellion and for Risorgimento 1860 battles between Piedmontese and Pontifical  troops ..the results were not bad even if AI cannot reach my extremely high knowledge of the 1860 period 😉
Anybody already tried something similar?

Wow not sure why people are concerned. AI is free for all online.

I was just tinkering with some of the same ideas. Just for fun to see what it would give me. I even asked it to make me an image of British regulars in the Sudan circa 1884-1885. I asked it to make the image like a war correspondent of the period would draw it.

The image turned out OK, but I found is it could not get the Martini-Henry rifle correct. I think once or twice out of about eight tries. It kept rendering bolt action rifles. I even uploaded a picture of the rifle to ChatGPT and it still struggled.

I then uploaded a picture of one of my Miniatures, I asked it to again try and mimic a war correspondent sketch from the era. It came out, pretty darn cool.

I tinkered with lists, campaign rules, maps, photo-realistic backgrounds, traits for leaders, etc. I quite enjoyed the whole experience.

In the end it’s just another tool in the kit to having fun in the hobby.

Maybe try to educate yourself about some of the ethical and environmental issues?

Thats a bit deep. Perhaps he is well educated and understands the ethical issues and uses software like Adode Firefly for his finished work thus giving compensation/royalties to the creators? He might also be aware of the environmental issues and as we type is working on many of the AI sustainabilty programmes designed to address large scale environmental challenges ?

 But hey,who am I to judge ?

Maybe , im sorry, but I do not understand what you said
Because of the fact that I m “well educated “  I really do no need any , further, supposed to be  “education” on those kind of toxic stuff and i don’t care a bit about non existent or not so important “environmental issues”..I just used AI for simple , relaxing hobby purposes and just for fun ..and being the resulting prompts totally connected to our hobby i was lucky to be spared of such empty and  terribly boring words such as “ethic issues” “environment” “resilience”  “sustainability” “inclusion” ecc…we chatted just of scales, minis, terrain features, fire tables  ecc..dont be afraid of it it’s just an artificial mind that you can still drive :-)

Just for fun, eh? so I suppose taking out the garbage and cleaning the loo are still tasks you won’t want to give up while the AI does all the “creative” chores like scenario design and research you absolutely hated doing. I guess you’ll be getting it to paint your figs and playing your games next.

If I understand you correctly, you fed the core of the TSATF rules into an AI. I assume the rules are copyrighted but I acknowledge that  the rules might not be  copyrighted, as it were, if the author has declared that  their work can be repeated in any way, in any form for any purpose.

By inputting the rules into the AI system did you not effectively give it the core of the author's work?

AI using - without authorisation, acknowledgement or payment - of an author's work can be a big issue for writers.

Name two that are currently active and being used to mitigate the environmental effects of Generative AI.

I'd be quite annoyed if someone started feeding a game I'd written into an AI so it could incorporate my writing into it's dataset. These massive companies are making a fortune stealing the work of small creators, surely the least we can do is not actively feed the beast.

Sorry folks, I've locked this topic as some of the replies are already getting close to just squabbling and insults.
I would also question whether the topic should even be here, it's relation to wargaming is tenuous and it is drifting into politics.
