Generic acrylic medium
« on: 23 July 2025, 06:44:08 PM »
Potentially a stupid question... can I use the acrylic medium from one paint brand (Army Painter) with a different brand (Vallejo)?

My paint collection is just those two brands but I don't want to buy a specific Vallejo medium as I don't use those paints a lot.

99.9% sure it will work fine. I mix and match across multiple lines with various mediums (media?).

The only way you might run into issues if one range is water-based, like Vallejo, and the other spirit-based, like Tamiya.

I mix and match all the time. In fact, I use a lot of Golden and Liquitex products instead of hobby paint brand medium.

Me too. Golden is easy to come by and high quality.

I used to live a short drive from an art supply store in Calgary but the only thing near me in Edmonton is a Michael's. Can't afford to buy Liquitex from them :-) (Also, they removed all of their cashiers and replaced them with self-serve and I don't use those).
