A place to post about ‘Epic’ Empires
« on: 03 August 2025, 03:10:24 PM »
My understanding is that there is a FaceBook group that gives a focus to the Epic Range by Warlord Games, but I don’t use FaceBook and posts here generally seem infrequent and easily fragmented, so perhaps those of us with an interest in Epic style armies might use this thread to post our ideas and games etc.

There is a bloke (Scotty) who has stepped outside the standard basing system recommended by Warlord Games and this has involved chopping a few of the infantry strips. Anyway, in the video below, he is working towards an order of battle for the Trebbia scenario …. As am I and his ideas are really good.

Note this vid is now 11 months old and he has since completed the small project and played the game, these are also covered by later videos.

Anyway, plenty of ideas here for anyone interested.

I think his basing ideas are great though I am a bit tepdatious about cutting up the minis myself. I think, in general, I have not started my punic wars epic yet because a part of me is holding out hoping they release the romans in strips.

I have cut some of mine and it works, but others such as the heavy infantry with overlapping shields just can’t be cut which is why Scotty has likely gone for the double base width with them to give a phalanx look.

I am not fully settled on what I will do, but his work has opened my eyes to looking at all Epic projects from an alternative basing perspective. For example with my napoleonic cavalry, I have just moved over to single big basing 80mm x 60mm and I think I will do likewise for the Hannibal cavalry (and ECW!).
