The second issue of Blaster magazine included a game called Mystic Skies, that featured wizards zipping about on flying carpets and summoning soldiers and monsters to attack each other. Weird little game, it used Gaslands templates and mechanics to handle the wizards' movement.

This was an early version of what became the Cursebreaker game. :-)

TFT Wizard was recently rereleased

https://thefantasytrip.game/products/core-games/wizard/

The Fantasy Trip has aged well as a game system. It is a shame it never reached the critical mass Dungeons and Dragons did back in the late seventies.

Excalibur Miniatures did a simple and fast game: 'Magic Challenge'. This sounds like what you're looking for: wizards battling each other with spells, including summoning allies to battle their opponent. Never played it but it always seemed like a fun game for conventions or with many players.
