Rustall gone?

I got a Rustall rust set a decade or so ago and its fantastic stuff, bit time consuming to build up layers but well worth it. Wanted to recommend it to a friend but found the webpage dead (since 2021 by the looks of wayback machine) and out of stock almost everywhere. So I'm in the denial stage   hoping one of you is going to tell me they re-branded and are still widely available under some new name. Or a similar product at least.

Sorry, not come across Rustall before.

I can recommend Dirty Down, and it seems to be pretty widely available. I think they do a couple of rusts effects now.
Recently learnt that warming the bottle before a really good shake gets the gunk distributed, and the intensity can be increased by adding water once applied to the model, so you can go from a dark brown up to an orange, and presumably that works with the new yellow(?) one..

I found a forum where it appears that they were still trading back in 2018.  Google AI says the company closed but does not give further details as to when.  It does appear that they changed the formula in the end and it was not as good. 

You might be able to make your own small batches with some Monroe Models weathering powders and some white spirits.  Their rust and soot powders are spot on.

AK Interactive makes killer rust options. Both their powders and fixatives, and their paint sets (Gen III) - I’ve used them to solid effect.

Plenty of weathering options out there but I think Rustall was fairly unique in what it did - actually doing a bit more than weathering metal, actually eating away at it until arresting the process from what I understand.  Never used it myself but seen it used on some amazing model railroad models over the decades.

Discontinued in 2021 from what I could glean.  So, yeah, gone it seems. 

So, now time for someone to replicate.  No, not me - I'm retired!

I don't think that's right. Truth be told Im not sure it does anything special. The set includes a very thin rust paint, more like a watery wash , which I must say does do rust tones better than anything else, somehow gets nice color modulation all by itself. A black wash much the same. A very fine dust for building up texture which they fully admitted as harvesting from a clay deposit in their back yard, and a thin dull coat and fixative. Honestly I think it's the fact that it took a couple of applications which makes it work. Weathering is always looks better when it's build up in layers, and a lot of modern rust products are very pigment heavy and thick, touting you only need one layer. Maybe I just need to start thinking those way down. I'll definitely miss the rust color when my bottle runs out though, something special going on with that.
