Close, but not quite  ;)
Senor Malamute has a cunning plan on which we are collaborating  :)

It's interesting to note that the figures are nearly all different shades of brown, but you have managed to define each one with a variety of tones and textures.  Great stuff.

Weird that, James, cos it's the same two paints used for every figure's skin - GW scorched brown and VMC dark flesh - I guess the ratio is just slightly different...  ::)

More tomorrow! Just got to add grass to the bases...

9 and 10...

The bigwig with the feathers and finery has a slightly different skin recipe to all the others - a dash of GW snakebite leather blended into the scorched brown to give him a slightly lighter skin tone.

I'm probably completely wrong as far as Zulus are concerned, but I have a vague notion that the high class people in native societies have slightly lighter / finer complexions than the hoi-polloi...

Anyway, see what you think.  ;)

Sorry, didn't explain myself very well there.  What I meant was that everything ABOUT the figures - shields, spears, animal tails, skin etc - is all different shades and textures and you have succeeded in making the individual features stand out, despite the fact that everything is brown.  Hope that makes more sense!  It was a compliment. :)

I applaud the simplicity of the skin tones, will have to try it myself...

These are ace, Captain, especially your skintones.

Quick note - the notion of lighter skin = higher class holds true in India, Latin America and much of North Africa and the Middle East. I doubt it would have been the case for Sub-Saharan Africa in the late 19th Century, and it's rarely the case in Sub-Saharan Africa now (where social class within any given nation is more determined by your standing in your particular ethnic group or political faction, or both). Indeed in some parts of Africa the darker your skin the higher you are ranked socially, although this varies from ethnic group to ethnic group - the 'Blue People' in particular have considerable contempt for 'white' Africans whose black skin just isn't, well, black enough.
