Old Glory's Sudan Range - opinions?

As the title suggests, I'm considering Old Glory's Sudan figures (the Ansar in particular). Does anyone have any experience of these? Are they any good? Photos would be appreciated. I'm also interested in how they scale up to Perry's Sudan range.

Hi,

I have a huge collection of OG Sudan Range. I bought them when others were not available.
I like them. Unfortunatley for OG there are better miniatures available now. But I think if you need large numbers they are still a bargain.
It was quite a lot of work to clean them.
You can mix them with Perry Ansar. Thats no problem. On the distance there is not much of a difference. While game mastering a Sudan adventure with my figures they were mistaken as Perry miniatures so  guess they are ok

The flag bearer and swordsmen are all OG.

The beja are OG and Perry, the swordmen are OG and the swordmen in vest is foundry.

The drummer and flag bearer are  OG

I have some of the Sudanese infantry, and in their unpainted state they don't look very good. Strange thing with Old Glory, though: I often find that a nice coat of paint transforms their otherwise mediocre fare into pretty nice-looking figures. This has happened more than once to me in the past, and it would seem that Björn's experience is the same.

The Sudan range is one of Old Glory's better sculpted lines for sure, at least on the Mahdist side.  the Ansar riflemen are especially nice with kneeling & crouching figs that are the equal of Perrys.   Also the only place to get packs of wounded and dead figs for both sides in bulk.

Thank you Chairface. Not all are mine. The Ansar on multibase and Sikhs are Dominics.
We had a huge game and everybody brought his figures. There were some Marines and Sudanese Troops involved as well. It was a very nice game.

They are ok. You see them in the center picture.

I think Poly and others have hit the nail on the head, I have some of the Wars of Religion figures and for bulk units they are sculpted rather well and stand up fairly well against Copplestone and Owne sculpts for the same period...not as characterful mind you but they are quite good.

I would however always want to see a pack in the flesh before buying these days (either at a show or form other gamers who have them) to check for myself.

Thanks for all the replies chaps. I ordered two packs and they arrived yesterday. The figures are fairly well sculpted, nothing to shout about but with very few faults. Less doubles than I had feared, too. They scale up near perfectly with Perry figures, so no problems there (not that I ever doubted any of you for a moment). My only real problem with them is the lack of spears in the pack; I'm not sure if they mention this on the site, but it's rather annoying, considering there are 30 of them that are in need.
In all, I'd certainly recommend them if you're in need of troops in bulk.

Make sure you are careful when drilling hands out too they tend to be a bit fragile
