Today, Chris and I finally played our first learning game of
Chaos in Carpathia. He had just finished painting his first three wulfen jager for his warband. I pulled out three werewolves, set up the table, and we took the rules for a test run.
For those who are interested more in the atmospheric text of the developing story, see the accompanying post on my site:
http://geektactica.blogspot.com/2010/02/wulfen-jager.htmlAs for the game itself...
Here's the table set-up. We just threw down a bunch of the terrain I've been working on lately, and the table was suitably scary.

The wulfen jager cross the bridge.

We rolled the "Stygian Darkness" special event. The hunters suffered movement restrictions and the effective range of their rifles was reduced. Feeling over-confident, I moved Blackmaw up and he was quickly dispatched by the expert hunter Hans Klapp (Blasted silver bullets!)

Whitemane hid behind a statue, and I was quite impressed with the charging rules. For those not familiar, CIC allows a model to charge an enemy not in line of sight if a successful Mind goal roll is passed. Since werewolves have the Sharp Senses ability they have a bonus when making such rolls.

Needless to say, Whitemane found himself in combat, and I learned just how savage werewolves can be in hand-to-hand.

Before long it was an all out brawl. At close quarters, the werewolves came out on top (no surprise)

In the end, Hans found himself set upon by two werewolves, and our test game ended in a gruesome defeat for the hunters.

Bats in the Belfry. Chris brought along his bat swarm, so we had to take a photo for posterity sake.

I was pretty sure from reading the rules that I was going to like the Goal System rules, and after trying them we weren't disappointed. Chris says that the remainder of the monster hunters will be finished by next weekend, and then we will likely start our Horror campaign in earnest.
In the meantime, I'm headed downstairs to paint my forests and to start in on some more models. As always, I'll keep you posted.
