Beasts of Bastogne, a work in progress.
« on: January 12, 2010, 03:25:48 AM »

December 1944.  The 101st Airborne endures the cold, the lack of supplies and the long hours of waiting.  They say, "Nuts!" to the German army that surrounds them, and they remain defiant and undeterred.  But can they face a foe more....Abominable?
The Beasts of Bastogne......coming to a table top near me (as soon as I finish terrain and repaint the beasts).

Look for it here...

you do know there was no way in hell they only said "nutz" to the Germans  lol
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Great stuff!  Do you use the BGWWII rules with your EEE airborne?

I'm sure it was something a bit more colorful... ;)

Thanks.  I have a variety of rules I use, for this I'm trying out Where Heroes Dare.  These minis have seen action mostly doing non-weird WWII games using the U.S.S.R. rules (Ultra Simple Skirmish Rules) from Bolt Action.

Busted.  I just thought doughnuts would be cheep terrain, but my opponent ate my cover then mowed down my troops.  Drat.  Next time we'll hide behind liver.   ;D

Cool :)
What make are the beasts?

(from wiki)
According to an article in the Daily Mail the reply was not "Nuts" but a four letter expletive that was changed for propaganda purposes for domestic consumption. But that was not the case, according to Vincent Vicari, McAuliffe's personal aide who was there at the time. As quoted by Richard Pyle of the Associated Press December 12, 2004, Vicari said, "General Mac was the only general I ever knew who did not use profane language. 'Nuts' was part of his normal vocabulary."

we'll never know for sure tho lol

Thanks Col. Stone, that's pretty interesting.

Yes, the Beasts are Heroclix Wendigo.  The figure has only one pose, but it is pretty easy to change the attitude of the arms and angle of stance to give a bit of variety.  As soon as I finish re-painting (which I almost elected not to do, they are nice figures as they are) I'll post a group shot.  I have 6 Beasts in all.

Good idea.  They're nice for doing a Weird War II amalgamation of the movies Dog Soldiers and Ravenous>:D
