lovely armies and interesting scenarios
romans vs barbarians.....

btw
chap (n.)
    1577, "customer," short for obsolete chapman (see cheap). Colloquial sense of "lad, fellow" is first attested 1716 (cf. slang tough customer).

Many thanks to you too.
I'm very happy that to have appreciated our scenario.
The idea of the Imperial Roman Legion in our fantasy world of Naran, it is derived from the novels of Turtledove of "The Lost Legion" and also by TV movies of Xena.
We have also put Xena in Naran, with the name of Axena, in the army of the Heroes of Parnassus.

turtledove seems to inspire a lot of wargaming nowadays

though I must say I find his writing style a bit exhausting

Turtledove inspires this wargamer to think his Conan pastiche is the worst lump of crap ever penned.

For Romans vs. Barbarians, read Bran Mak Morn by REH, the man understands the barbarism vs. civilization theme.

I do like your Cimmerians, the brushwork brings those classic models to life.

Turtledove is crap, I have read a few of his books actually and each one is worst then the last. Hollywood should hire him to write for them because his style is on par with all the horrible movies they have been putting out as of late.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Currently, I'm leaning towards either Lord of the Rings (since those make for a nice, quick-paced game, with quickly-handled melees in particular), or Broadsword Adventures; but since I'm not too much of a role-player, and could never quite wrap my head around the nonetheless excellent .45A rule concept, I think it'll be the first one.

I agree, the LotR rules are great.  I use them for a lot of things.

Very nice Chris :).And yes H. Turtledove is awful,for my money M.Scott Rohan's Winter of the World is a well written series and plenty of ideas for the likes of us.

I agree, the LotR rules are great.  I use them for a lot of things.

We (Naran Team), instead have made the armies lists for the army of the Lord of the Rings to play them with Fantasy Warriors, we believe that it is a wargame much higher than GW's game (very similar to the historical wargame Impetus), with the entire unit on one large base only. Instead, we put the GW's miniatures of the LotR series on individual bases (square or rectangular) and thus we may use them for the battles described in The Lord of the Rings, with the F.W. rules.
We added those armies in our world of Naran, of course changing their names:
Gondor = Camelot (Iperborea)
Rohan = Danir (Iperborea)
Saruman = Xanatar
Sauron = Saunorassar
Haradin = Khaladrin
ETC.
We also use, however, 28 mm Black Tree miniatures, of the serie Lords of the Realm, which were nothing more than those of the Lord of the Rings when they were sold by Harlequinn.

Aww now I'm looking at barbarians on ebay as well as all the other stuff whizzing round my head - dammit!!

Great job - any ideas where I might pick up some of the old grenadier minis?

Got a strange virus warning when on the Mirliton site looking at their mulleted madmen!
