Wonderful work - the pattern on the scales really is superb.  :-*
It would fit in perfectly with Conan - after all there are giant serpents, so why not a Hydra or two?

I'd noticed only one head has a crest. Presumably he is the Chief Head. I wonder how you would become Chief Head on a Hydra  :?

 lol

I'd guess they first have a head count to see how many eligible voters are present and then, if a Voice Vote is inconclusive, head either for the "aye" or "nay" door...

The paint job on that Hydra is really fantastic.  It was good plan to go for realistic tones for the scales in the context of a freakin' huge multi headed monster.

The barbarians are really nice too but the hydra is brilliant.

Out of curiosity, how long did you take to paint the hydra?  I am a slow painter (although the end results dont always look it...) and I am curious as to how long that took you.

I received the item Wednesday, a week ago. It was exam week, so I only worked on and off, usually in the evenings (Wednesday assembly and puttying, Thursday morning primered, Thursday evening basecoated, and then worked on the pattern from Friday to Saturday evening; Varnishing Sunday morning, and basing sometime thereafter). Thus, some four days, all in all; maybe some 10-12 hours, all taken, excluding drying time, but I didn't keep records.

The main "problem" wasn't really the size and/or complexity of the beast, but rather its weight. I had attached the wood base with superglue prior to painting to be able to handle it, but still, the 1+kg the thing weighs were quite a challenge.

That's the trouble with these big metal models - you need a left arm like Conan's to hold the buggers steady whilst painting them  ::)

Thanks for the breakdown, that was exactly what I was interested in :)

I am looking forward to seeing more of your Hyboria work.  I dont really know anything about Conan other than the movies so I am interested to see what you do next.

I'm currently painting up more Barbarians, but will reserve those for the new LPL's first round; I'm looking forward to Vapnartak on Sunday, though, and hope to get a bunch of stuff suitable for use there (maybe some late Romans for use as Aquilonians). As well as that, my local Hobbycraft now stocks the Tamiya prehistoric animals range, and I'll get the "mesozoic creatures" box, mainly for the crocodile, but also some "small dragons" to populate Kushite jungles etc.
