Cheap dinosaur skeletons
« on: 17 January 2010, 03:59:48 PM »
If anyone's looking for dinosaur skeletons or bones I found the below in the 99p Store in Poole high street. I'm guessing there are branches in other towns, if anyone needs a few and doesn't have a 99p Store locally let me know and I'll try and pick up a few.

There are 4 versions, all clip apart into the obvious legs, head, body etc. components. Not sure if they are anatomically correct but if all you're after bones is to fit into a terrain feature these are ideal. Finish isn't great, but then for 99p what do you expect!  :)

The figure in the shot for scale is a Foundry darkest africa explorer.

We found some smaller ones in seafront gift shops.
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

You've already got some.  ;)

Poundland had these on their shelves back in the summer, I think they were in different packaging though. I've got mine stored in the shed but I'm not going out there to check, it's cold and dark and the spiders are probably starving.
Don't!

they look great!
and anatomically enough from what I can see
for 99p they could also lack any structure or detail, as far as I'm concerned  ;)

how is the plastic?

These are nice models. I picked up the stegasaurus a couple months ago with the idea of turning it into a piece of terrain. As yet, my daughter hasn't let me chop it up.   lol

Kids eh? My 7-yr-old absolutely refuses to let me dismember or even repaint his dinosaurs. How will I ever make my Atlantean sauros-riders or their Morlock opponents if I can't get enough dinosaurs, that's what I want to know.

Maybe I can swap him some for skeltal ones...

They're out again in Poundland in the UK. They're in Jurassic Park style packaging.

Managed to start on one of my dead dino terrain pieces.

The plastic of the model cuts easily with a small saw or dremel, and the factory paint finish seems to take other paints well. Have given this one a wash made of the brown emulsion I used for the basecoat of the base.

The socket holes where the legs plug in are going to be filled/removed. After 2 attempts with the jigsaw to cut a base the same shape as the skeleton, it was easier to add a large stone to the empty part of the 2nd base than go for base no. 3 :)

Now to add the greenery . . .

IT looks good, tough I think more of het models should be buried, I think I would have cut it in two, taken care to do so off to a side and then still put the side to a belt sander.

Still, I guess adding some foliage will also help with that effect, and of course it all depends on how old the bones are, if we’re talking lost world here they might have been stripped of all meat only a week ago. And they should be all above ground.

we shouldn't start about realism....
there would be much more to fix then

I think they look great as they are
If I manage to lay my hands on some, I'll try some dried skin/flesh, but this is something else and I have yet no idea how to do it...
