Return of The Mummy?
« on: 02 May 2007, 07:51:22 PM »
I thought this was pretty interesting.  A dust cloud like in the return of the mummy.  It got me thinking that this would be a good weather effect for a game play.  At a random interval during game play clouds of dust would cover the battlefield reducing visibility to 6 inches or something like that.  It could really screw with tactics and such.

I use dust storm as an event in my Dragon Bones games. LOS is reduced to just 3" (it's on a 24" x 24" board) and if you try to move more than 3" you have to pass a STAT test or your opponent moves you the remaining movement beyond 3". It makes it very interesting for the players suddenly running around blindly.

Sand storms like these are common in Middle Eastern countries. I used to live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as a kid and remember seeing them roll in off the desert.

They're great because they always look like the end of the world is coming!

Although once they hit they're pretty harmless as long as you're indoors or have suitable headgear/glasses on. Visibility is nil though :)

do these storms pop up too quickly to react to?  or can you see it coming for miles and get to cover in a reasonable time?

could be an interesting scenario subset where one sees the storm coming one/two turns out.  do i run for cover with my squad or take the shot at the bad guy and take the shot of sand in the face?
