John Carter of Mars
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:09:34 PM »
A novel character by Edgar Rice Burroughs: John Carter, an American Civil War veteran captain who went to Mars in 1866, where people only clad in jewelry... (just to silence any rumours that I only paint naked women)

Too right, thats not pleasant on the eye. ( The painting is superb by the way, its just the subject matter and the angle of the photos. Its a bit in your face) lol

Sweet!  I loves me some John Carter.  A great paintjob too  8)

I think that the angle of the photos is absolutely hilariously perfect :)  One of the more endearing parts of John Carters character was that he spent so much time starkers: shy he definitely was not.  He had no problem with nakedness, but he did have trouble talking to women :D

The Disney/Pixar movie is in production, I cant wait!

I have a few of the Bronze Age range of not-Barsoom figures, but they all took a more modest approach to the characters: loincloths.  Plenty of topless women, but they didnt expose buyers to any waist down nakedness.

I wouldnt mind getting a balls-to-windward figure of John Carter.  Where does your figure come from?

One last minor thing: I always thought that John Carter was dark haired, not blonde.

Itīs a miniature from Tinman I got from an American in exchange for some painting. His haircolour is artistic license by me. I already have so many dark haired figures and my wife likes the Irish/Shottish orangeheads.

He didnīt come alone:

I hate to point this out, since the flesh tones are so well done, but ... no pubic hair!  It's a long time since I read the books, so I can't remember: does John Carter shave or wax?  ;)

:o  Good Lord, how has Hammers missed this thread?  lol

Lovely paintwork - your flesh tones are superb, even if I'm not sure I like the figures themselves all that much  :)

Nice job, Michi. It's good to see a painted example of the Tinman Barsoomians.

You could always say that it's Ulysses Paxton and a couple of Lady Therns... ;)

For the squeamish, these figures do come in a semi-clothed variant as well.

I wouldn't say I'm squeamish, but I'm not sure Mrs Maximus would approve of all that rudeness :(

It's David Carusso in CSI Mars. Put your sunnies back on!

Seriously great painting and a great mini.
