10mm HOTT undead army, lots of pics
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:39:57 PM »
Some guys at the local had the cool idea of using Warmaster figures to make HOTT armies. I grabbed up some of the Vampire Counts and an Undead blister or two and got to work. It was a great deal of fun and I was lucky enough to find an aquarium castle I could convert into a crazy stronghold.

Here is another look at the stronghold,

I left a bit of negative space for a unit to sit in the corner.

And here is what the castle used to be, a Penn Plaxx Wizard's Castle. I found it in Petsmart but I think its on Amazon too, can't be exactly sure if the one on Amazon is the same one I have...

It was alot of cutting and filling but alot of fun too. I think if I had to do it again I would make the cuts a bit differently and avoid the big 90 degree angle in the undercut.

Fantastic!

I've never painted figures smaller than 15mm.  Must give these 10mm a go sometime.

Thats a great looking army and I love what you have done with the aquarium piece.

I picked up a lot of Warmaster and The Battle of Five Armies stuff at Xmas, mostly Orcs.  I havent gone near them yet (and it may be a while before I do) but your stuff is sure to prove inspirational.

I am going to have to start paying more attention in pet shops too...

Nice job Sky. I really like the blue-faced ghostie things. I've been trying to sell off my Warmaster High Elf army, but maybe I should save a few bases for HOTT!

Great Paintjob for such small figures.  I love the castle conversion and may have to nick the idea.

Wowee!

I'm now tempted more than ever by the copplestone 10mm orcs - good job he only has humans to oppose them and  not elves or else my wallet would be in trouble...

Dammit - just checked the website and his rangers look quite elfish!

Love the castle too - might have to look past the dog food section next time I'm at Pets at Home!!

Neat stuff. The stronghold is great!

I miss HOTT - got started in 15mm fantasy playing that, but most of the rest of the gaming group decided it wasn't complicated enough, so we moved onto other rulesets. (we replaced it with Chipco's Fantasy Rules!, which is a fine set and I still play it, but HOTT had a certain elegance to it)

It helped that my favourite army, and all-Blades dwarf army, was nearly unbeatable in HOTT. The game really seems to favour a big honkin' infantry line!

Excellent!
I like the "stronghold" - very good idea!

And the ghosts are very good. I see it here in with light blue faces - really fluffy!

I've always had a soft spot for the Warmaster minis and you've done an absolutely stunning job with them.  I haven't played HOTT for many years now, but seeing this has definitely revived my interest!  I'll have to stop being antisocial and head down to my local club one evening...
