Colours weren't yet invented in the 20's!
« on: 20 March 2010, 08:57:17 AM »
My take on some Dixon gangsters, deep ones (Uncle Mikes and Black Cat Bases) and a D&D gargoyle - in black and white as they should be   o_o

Hope you like 'em even though I was too lazy to pain their eyes...
Currently painting: Black Hat Three Musketeers range.

Maybe you should ask Vikotnik if you can use his Nosferatu table.....

CoC as a silent movie

Edit:
Totally forgot to say very nice painted figures...

Very nice. And the best bit is that you do not need a vast range of paints for them. Hmm, would sepia-tint wild west figures work too?

Really outstanding paintjob. Indeed, the old movie look befits Cthulhu!

With the comics code authority introduced in 1957 (a little past your time, I know) horror comics were forbidden in color. This new B/W trend reminds me of that, comics publishers like Warren found that the black and white suited horror very nicely, in Creepy and similar titles.

Very nice, You could put a bright, colorful figures in the middle of this bunch of "B&W" to show how good this effect look…

The black & Movie idea is really inspired. My hat's off to you. You've pulled it off brilliantly. Will you show us a picture of the table you play with?

@Ruarigh: Those sepia cowboys sound very good - very tempting as Dixon also makes cowboys and accessories*

@Calimero: yeah, I was supposed to put a red d6 in each picture, but forgot...

@kidterminal: Haven't made any terrain for these yet, I know roughly what I want to do but haven't gotten around to doing it yet...

*why dixon you may ask? Cheap, characterful and no cleanup needed. Plenty of poses too. Perhaps now as "pretty" as Black Scorpion or Foundry, but paint up VERY nicely.

Yup, all gangsters are Dixon minis. I really like them, nice and chunky :)

I really need to paint the eyes on these, the two that I did look so much better than the rest..

I ask this because I really find this kind of effect to be quite spectacular but whenever I want to share this with someone who doesn’t know how they are done, they just think that they are actually looking at black & white pictures... lol

A truly impressive achievement! I think I might go mad if I attempted to do so many figures with such a limited palette, though...  ;D
