Thanks, Roderic: I've found that many Reaper miniatures can pass as Hyborian folk or guards, the least "D&D-esque" of them. I'll try to summarize all the link given here because I'll do an article for Broadsword Adventures in our e-zine Cargad. I've still got time for more research!  :)

If you're going to be talking about BA, then you also might want to mention that we'll be doing a bunch of figures for its release as well.

I just found the perfect Hyrkanians:

http://www.battleline-miniatures.co.nz/products.asp?ProductCriterion=28mm%20Mongols&SubProductCriterion=Mongols

They have a nice fantasy-style look with those slightly oversized weapons that every Hyborian should carry. Now I have an alternative to Ebob, whose "Tribes of the East" have been out of stock for ages.

Oh and while I'm at it, I'll also direct your attention to Falcon Figures:

http://www.thequartermaster.com/catalog.php

They have a tiny range called Empires of the Sun that's supposedly made in the tradition of Conan. In addition they have some Roman civilians, and a "Ladies of the Night" range that some might find useful for slave girls and such (there are also a few more fully clad girls that could work as priestesses). They're all in 25mm, though.
"When to keep awake against the camel's swaying or the junk's rocking, you start summoning up your memories one by one, your wolf will have become another wolf, your sister a different sister, your battle other battles, on your return from Euphemia, the city where memory is traded." - Italo Calvino
