I always liked this picture

Which comes from this book

The chapter is called Gallant Deeds By Cyclists and the caption reads Gallant Stand By Cyclists In Parr Wood

Great illustration, although I wish there were more cyclists in the Gallant Deeds By Cyclists picture.   :(

The cycles are leaning up against the trees behind them , according to the book this a a section of the Royal Lancaster consisting of six cyclists and a LMG mounted on a double cycle  under the command of Sergeant Irons, they held off about 30 Russian dragoons and a force of infantry.
Hope they missed the horses!

This is actually the exact picture I was thinking about. Thanks! I also now have a term to put to it. Machinegun Quadracycle. I think I'll stick with the three wheeled Davidson though. Only, with a small steam engine. I'm still working on a parts list. What model kit scale is closest to 28mm again?

It depends on the subject matter and the figures you are trying to match.

1/60 or 1/56 would be the "closest" sizes, but 1/48 kits and 1/43 vehicles are usually cheaper and more readily available.

Thanks. Would anyone happen to be aware of any model kits for a Davidson or other vehicles of the period I could use to bash one together? A smaller scale would work too since what I really could use are wheels and the basic shape. Civilian version would be perfectly fine.
