tbh i think the minifigs are my favs... but i like the old glory too... mine are all packed away otherwise i'd take a picture, but they range from abt 15-18mm depending on the company..... i've got essex, minifigs, old glory, naismith, gallia, gladiator and old table top...

-Essex...... nice figure but suffer from short legs
-Gallia Miniatures .... medium sized ...averageish quality
-Gladiator Games .... a bit fat and ugly looking  :-X
-MiniFigs.... nice clean basic but look detailed at same time.... bit thin for some but look nice to me
-Naismith...... nice but quite small
-Old Glory..... really nice, large abt 18mm but a bit too fussy on detail
-Table Top Miniatures .... fat and stumpy not that nice

Heard good things about Lancashire  (clean, good sculpts, poses, no seperate  sheilds, etc.)

Don't know if they are  tall (    like some of their lines are   19mm   .)

Stone Mountain has nicely detailed  Zulus, but something looks kinda comical about them.  Smallish, compared to OG

Black Hat has   Zulus as well, in their colonial range.

I am ordering some 15mm Zulus for Darkest Africa now.

Trying some Essex with rifles and assegais, maybe some Lancashires,  and still looking for more.

Are the GFIs short, or tall enough to look alright with Essex, Old Glory,  etc?

Irregular has a pretty big Zulus range, haven't heard much about them.

What British are you using?  (that has to be considered as well)   If Old Glory and lancashire (I'm assuming they are tall) are gonna be in my Zulu mix, that would preclude most of the small figures.

I am still thinking about brits. Maybe I'll get minifings or essex, but I havent decided yet. Maybe I will also order some Irregular zulus just to have a look at them (because nobody know how does they look).

Hi.  I have a thread on TMP, about which British i should use ofr Sudan.

OG has gotten good recommendations for Sudan (but their Zulu War figs are not as good, so they say)

Stone Mountain Brits are detailed, but way too small, for comapatability with anything else but SM zulus.   (  they have huge head and hands, tiny bodies, they look like toddlers dressed in unifroms. (but they are cute, in tghat Peter Pig kinda way)

Essex are OK, IMO.

Damn Warmodelling!  (the Fanatassin range) Have you seen their SAW and Carlist war ranges?  Just Beautiful!  Perfect!  I got some the second I saw them.  The Cubans, Spanish and US packs are as good as anything I've seen in 28mm, as far as detail and character.  WHY DIDN'T THEY DO COLONIAL BRITISH?   WHY?

Let me know what you decide.

I believe these are the old Gladiaor Games renge. I have a couple of packs and even though they are quite chunky, as has been mentioned , I bought them as the pack includes a Witch Doctor (isAngoma)  :D

When I get time this afternoon I'll photograph Essex, Minifig and Gladiators Zulus for comparison along with a couple of Essex and Minifig Brits.

I'm not sure if it helps but here is a comparison shot of some of the ranges available. I tried lining them up but unfortunately I wasn't overly successful. You can get an idea how they look though.

From the left: Irregular, Essex, Black Hat/Gladiator, Irregular, Essex, Minifig, Essex.

I found the list of 15mm zulu manufacturers...
-Musket Miniatures

I can vaguely recall reading somewhere, most possibly 'The Miniatures Page', that the Zulus sold by Musket Miniatures are Minifigs/GFI

.

You're welcome. Thanks mate! I hope to be able to change the avatar with a miniature I sculpted a few years ago if I ever get him cast up and one painted.

I like Irregular Zulu very much... But Essex are good to... maybe i will order them all and mix them in my army :)
Briths will be Minifigs or Essex. Irregular Miniatures brits are good to, but I am allready using them as hunters/explorers  in "Jimland" games.
