LOL!  How cosmopolitan.

That's OK, everyone has their bad mioments.  Even Smokey, for I killed a man in Nashville once.

 :D

Was he a country and western fan? If so, that's ok  ;)

By the way, both Jacob and his missus are ever such a light shade of brown - so I'm going back to my original theory about high status Africans being lighter-skinned than the masses.

I did some work with a few community workers from Sudan for a forum against racism (here in Australia, not in Sudan) and the bloke said that was a major cause of separation in Sudan, even amongst people native to there: as people were progressively darker, the worse they were regarded socially, and the more negatively they were descriminated against.

I don't really have any way to back this up aside from an anecdote, though.

But what I'm trying to say is, your observations are probably correct.

I heard the same when I was in the Carribean.

But what I'm trying to say is, your observations are probably correct.

Zuma's father was Old Bill, his mum was a maid and he never received an education. Hardly high status. Do you get some kind of skin-lightening treatment once elected president, then?

Nelson Mandela, however, is Xhosa royalty. He's quite light-skinned too. But then again lots of Xhosa are. I think you need a bit of wider sample before you can make any assumptions.

I did specify it was a Sudanese man... and that it was anecdotal.

I'm sure there's plenty of information against my casual hypothesising... thanks for bringing it up.

Getting completely off topic now but my ex wife was Thai. That culture too thinks white skinned people are higher class because they are less likely to be out working in the rice fields . She came from a farming family and is dark skinned but she would stay out of the sun as much as possible to stop getting darker.
I prefer darker skinned ladies myself. ;D

A tan was once associated with working outside. Now, a tan can be associated with luxurious holidays on 60 ft. yachts, too ;D Funny how these things change...

Yes he was.  He was also a jealous husband (rightly so).
