I agree the themes are very general and some more definition would be required.  This is just brain storming at this point.  Keeping themes general enough where no new minis are required (to purchase, anyway) is also a must.  At least several LPL Bonus Rounds have required me to use proxy models rather than purchasing new ones (VSF for example).

That being said, the bonus rounds so far have been excellent and well outside my comfort zone or theme familiarity, but for me that's one of the largest appeals of LPL.

I know the rules of the current LPL don't allow scenery but how many people have a building WIP on thier workbench?
So how about having a paint a building round for a change.

I don't enter competitions, but I'd like to make a few suggestions:

Musicians/band - any period,

Post World War II an up to Lebanon 1982,

Protecting the standard/colours - any period,

Warriors of the faith - any period, and

Mercenary band - any period.

Bands would be difficult to do, because there are so few of such minis.  And I don't think the post-WWII idea would be popular around here.  I really like your protecting-the-colors idea, however.  Leaves open a lot of possibilities, and allows for some nicely painted flags.

I like the mercenary suggestion, as that lends itself to a wide variety of themes and periods.

While I agree that painting nude figures poses an interesting painting challenge, I think that many of us would be hard-pressed to put together entire thematic teams from our existing collections. I think that a nude figure challenge would be better as a separate, smaller contest outside the LPL.

In LPL4 every miniature I painted was already in my leadpile apart from the Automata, which I had bought for a specific game that happily coincided with the League.  I paint far more during the League than I would do so otherwise, undoubtedly the Profs original intention.  The theme rounds in all the Leagues so far have been fine for me.

Mine were may 2/3 lead pile and 1/3 new orders. In many ways a mistake, I think, in retrospect.

I like all of these ideas apart from the Musicians where I agree with Mancha.
The others ideas I can think of a team I could use in my games, so I like them.

I don't like the idea of painting Nudes at all. I use the LPL to paint figures I want to use in games and the games I play do not involve nudes. And if I did use them for characters in our DnD group the guys would end up sending the night oggling the figures instead of playing the game ;D
They are very easily distracted (by things like that) lol

Perhaps you are joking, but surely there are plenty of wargaming genres part from Fantasy which would qualify for such a theme. Gladiators, Spartans, Darkest Africa, SA Indians, Ancient Germans.

Another interesting subject would be:

ceremonial uniforms of the world.

I am thinking something like:
sultan's bodyguard,
guards colour party (yes, inspired by  Airfix)
danish grenadier guards and so on.

I am also backing the "music band" theme Helen proposed.
Available figures are not so scarce as initially you think. here is a small list:
SYW bosniak and british  music band (by Foundry and Tradition)
ACW music bands (I think redoubt has some bandsmen in 28mm or I am mistaken? for 15mm I am sure there is at least one band, since I have it)
Napoleonic mounted and foot band (by Minifigs)
Victorian in home service helmet music band (Tradition)
Scots pipe and drums band (combine drummers and pipers from existing ranges)
and modern bands   (even a female music band) by rose and sword(??) or little lead soldiers.
Yes it is needed to buy new figures, but could be minimal say 5mounted and 10foot ones.
